      <p class="para_topic">Project Initialization lets you either create a new project for a sheet metal part or open a project that has been created earlier. If you save your work and exit the NX software at some point in the Progressive Die Wizard process, you must use Project Initialization to return to the process later.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">You display the PDW Project Initialization dialog by picking the toolbar button or by using the Tools menu command. </p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The New tab displays buttons to let you insert or remove sheet metal parts or a strip layout, specify a project path and name, specify part material, and edit the material data base. You can also stamp multiple parts in a die. The inserted part or the strip layout's unit, thickness, and material are automatically evaluated and displayed.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The Open tab displays a Project Path and Name field and a Browse Project button.</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <div class="title_division">Create a Project</div>
      <p class="para_division">When creating a new project, you can insert either a sheet metal part or a strip layout.</p>
      <p class="para_division">From the New tab, you can pick Insert Part to display the Select part dialog to browse for parts.</p>
      <p class="para_division">When you have selected a part, the Project Initialization dialog displays the units, thickness and material. You can also pick the material associated with the part. You can, at this point, enter a project name, which then becomes the prefix for all parts in the project. </p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The system automatically evaluates the thickness and allows you to change it.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The material selection tells the system which parameters to use for a variety of operations, such as springback and minimum bend radius. </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">If the Material Database doesn't have the material you want to use, you can&nbsp;add it into&nbsp;the database, or just type it in UI, in later case,&nbsp;Feature Pre-Process&nbsp;will use default BAF and K-factor, but user still can edit it in UI; User can not use Force Calculation because lack of material property information. </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">You can edit the material parameters spreadsheet by picking the Edit Material Database button.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">You can rename each component of the design assembly template by checking on the Rename Dialog toggle button.</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <div class="title_division">Open an Existing Project</div>
      <p class="para_division">To open an existing project, click the Open tab in the Project Initialization dialog box.  Click the browse button to display the Select dialog box.  The NX &nbsp;cue line prompts you to select a project file.</p>
      <p class="para_division">When the project is open, the &nbsp;part thickness and part materiel values will be displayed. If you want to edit a value, type the value into the appropriate field, press Enter, and then click OK. &nbsp;If you want the software to recognize old SMD features, select <b class="uiTerm">Use Sheet Metal Feature</b>. If your part contains Sheet Metal Features,  Feature Pre-Process and Strip Layout will list them.

      <div class="title_division">Project Management</div>
      <p class="para_division">You manage a project through the assembly structure, as defined in a template, with a control part as the top node of the project.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Each node in the assembly structure stores related information. The Assembly Navigator display shows the part name, count, and component name associated with each node.</p>

      <p class="para_division">Each node's part name has a meaningful suffix:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">*_control - the top node in the tree.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">*_part - original sheet metal parts.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">*_blank -&nbsp;blanks of&nbsp;sheet metal parts.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">*_process - final shape of sheet metal part. </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">*_nest - nesting (blank layout) results.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">*_die - &nbsp;simulation, relief and strip layout assembly components; all die components and sub-assemblies.</p>
            <ul>

                  <p class="para_item">*_var&nbsp;- pocket clearance and CAM information, etc. non-geometry information.</p>
               </li>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">*_simulation - strip layout simulation result.</p>
               </li>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">*_strip - strip layout result.</p>
               </li>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">*_relief - all relief solid bodies.</p>
               </li>
            </ul>
         </li>
      </ul>

      </table><br><p class="para_division">You define naming rules using the <b class="uiTerm">Progressive Die Wizard Customer Defaults</b> option in the <b class="uiTerm">NX Customer Defaults </b>utility.       <div class="title_division">Troubleshooting</div>
      <p class="para_division">If you get an error message that the software can't save all parts, you may have started in a directory that already contained files with the same names as those the software is trying to create. </p>
      <p class="para_division">When you start a new PDW project, the only file in the working directory should be the sheet metal part. If the software finds an identical part name, it will not overwrite the file.</p>
