External spreadsheets may be accessed and incorporated as part of the current spreadsheet. This is done when many spreadsheets would use the same data to reduce maintenance if changes are made.

The active row of the target sheet is set by interpart definition using the following formatting.

UM_Mold Base path controlling=controlled

Use of Suppress and Unsuppress

When parameters are updated using the interpart method, the parameters method completes all of its updates before those expressions controlled by secondary sheets. This may leave features in positions that cause update failure.

For example, a hole may be positioned outside of the mold base. The solution is to suppress all features that may fail to update before changing plate sizes or repositioning other features. This is accomplished by placing a suppress expression in the update process by one of two methods:

The supp_pock parameter is a parameter contained in the top level mold base file. Mold Wizard automatically changes the value of the supp_pock parameter before updating the mold base and returns it to 1 after the update is complete. Features prone to update failure should be assigned a suppression expression tied to the supp_pock parameter.

A suppress parameter can be added to the top level mold base component. When a series of external sheets are used, the first sheet applies a value of 0 to suppress, and the last sheet applies a value of 1. Refer to the OMNI inch mold bases for use of this method.

Feature Suppression in Mold Bases

In some cases, the expressions changing a mold base are updated in stages, depending on the function used to update the expressions. The parameters section updates before the interpart section is processed.

If, for example, the dimensions of a mold base plate are changed such that holes in the plate are positioned outside of the plate, the hole features will fail until they are repositioned. The solution to this problem is to suppress any features that may be affected by this circumstance before the updates occur and then un-suppress them after the updates are complete.

The method to automatically suppress and unsuppress these features is first to create suppress-by-expression expressions for these features and link them to a single parameter that controls suppression. Features that already have suppression-by-expression conditions assigned to them should have the update suppression value included. The easiest way to do this is by multiplying the existing suppression value by the global suppression value.

For example, if you already have the following suppression by expression equation:

p334= if(p234>2)(1)else(0)

and you have a global feature suppression parameter sup, you would edit the expression as follows:

p334=(if(p234>2)(1)else(0))*sup

Changing values to control the suppression can be accomplished in two ways:

There is a standard Mold Wizard expression, supp_pock, located in the top-level assembly file of the mold base containing the attribute UM_Mold Base. Create the supp_pock expression in the top-level mold base file and link the suppression expression in each component to the supp_pock expression.

The alternative method is used when INTERPART spreadsheets are used. Since they update later than those controlled by the PARAMETER section, conflict may arise.

A user-defined suppression expression can be controlled as follows:

Name the suppression expression suppress in the top level mold base component and link the component expressions as in the previous example.

In the mold base spreadsheet PARAMETERS section include a column headed by the cell suppress and a value of 0 below it. This passes a value of 0 to the suppress parameter of the mold base and suppresses the features that are linked to it every time the mold base is updated.

Add a sheet to the spreadsheet named UNSUPPRESS (you can name it anything) and write a row in the last position of the INTERPART section of the mold base spreadsheet directing the UM_Mold Base part to be updated to the expressions in the UNSUPPRESS sheet. An example of this method can be found in the Mold Base \dme_i_a\dme_i_a.xs4 spreadsheet.

Place a parameter "suppress" in the UNSUPPRESS sheet with a value 1, below it. This causes the suppress parameter to update to 1 after all other updating is completed.
