The Extract Regions function performs a single task: extracting core and cavity regions. When you use this function, Mold Wizard automatically searches boundary faces and patched surfaces in the neighborhood of the parting lines. If the total number of faces on the body is not equal to the number of faces that are going to be copied to the core side, plus the number of faces that are going to be copied to the cavity side, then usually boundary faces are not correctly specified. Mold Wizard warns you if such a situation occurs and highlights the problem faces, but you still can ignore the warning and continue extracting.

When you extract regions, you have two ways to specify region boundaries: boundary faces and boundary edges. Also, you have the option to edit a seed face for the core region and a seed face for the cavity region.

Edit Cavity Boundary

When you click the Edit Cavity Boundary or Edit Core Boundary buttons, Mold Wizard pre-highlights and preselects boundary faces, but you can also add or remove boundary faces for the core or cavity.

Editing Cavity Boundary

Mold Wizard determines most of the boundary faces correctly, but sometimes, you need to modify the boundary faces that are automatically generated by Mold Wizard. You use the two sliders to preview the faces that are going to be extracted to the core or cavity side. You can slide the scale to gradually view the faces to help you pinpoint where the leaking occurs in case there are some missing boundary faces.

The Cavity Faces number plus the Core Faces number should equal the Total Faces number. If it is not equal, use the scroll bar to check cavity region faces or core region faces to find the problem areas.

Sometimes it is easier to specify boundary edges rather than boundary faces. In this case, use the Edit Boundary Edges button. When you select this option, Mold Wizard pre-highlights the boundary edges, and you can add or remove boundary edges.

You can use the Edit Seed Faces option when parting and patching is done correctly, and the boundary is still leaking. This occurs sometimes because Mold Wizard identifies the wrong seed faces. In those cases, you need to edit seed faces manually.

You can find these kinds of surfaces by dragging the slider to find leaking areas and by checking the region boundary.

Mold Wizard automatically finds the region for the seed face and the boundary for both the core and cavity sides. Sometimes, when it's difficult to decide seed faces, you are prompted to select the cavity and core seed face before the Extract Regions dialog is displayed.

When you find leaking occurring at patch surfaces, increase modeling tolerance in the Mold Wizard preferences. Sometimes, this helps Mold Wizard find the correct boundary around patch surfaces.
