The work piece function replaces the cavity body.

The Distance Allowance method creates an insert box by measuring the product model and suggesting an appropriate size for the mold insert. The Z_down and Z_up values measure the part from the mold coordinate system. The Z_up dimension determines the highest point in the cavity insert.

The Work Piece Dimensions dialog allows you to select any body in the parting part to use as the cavity/core, or cavity and core independently as needed.

Associative With Product Model

The standard work piece is associative with the product model under some conditions, as explained in the following rules:

When the product model size is changed, as with a shrinkage factor change, and the boundary box of the product model is still inside of the work piece box, the size and position of the work piece is not changed.

When the position of the product model is changed, as in the situation of setting a new Mold CSYS, the work piece box will be translated from the old product model center to the new product model center. This means the work piece position will be changed, but the size won't.

If the product model is changed to a size larger than the work piece box, the work piece is changed automatically. The MW_WorkPieceOffset value, defined in Mold Wizard Customer Defaults is used.

After making any change to the work piece model, you should check the work piece dimensions to confirm that they are correct. If the work piece model has been altered due to a change in the product model, the dimensions may not be the rounded-off dimensions that are usually used for work piece dimensions.

To set the work piece to rounded-off dimensions: enter offset values in the Work Piece Dimensions fields, and press the Enter key. The work piece size will now have a rounded-off value. You can see the actual offset value after you click the Apply button to update the work piece or restart the Work Piece dialog box.

Reference Point Method

The Reference Point method allows the user to define the work piece by specifying the dimension to each side of the work piece relative to a reference point. The reference point uses the MCSYS by default. However, an alternative reference may be set using the Set Reference Point button and resulting Point Constructor dialog box.
