      <p class="para_topic"><b class="uiTerm">PDW</b>&nbsp;can be used on different platforms. If you are working on a <b class="uiTerm">Microsoft Windows &reg; (Windows)</b> platform you can use either <code>Xess </code>or <b class="uiTerm">Microsoft Excel (Excel)</b>for your spreadsheet format. If you have a network that includes both <b class="uiTerm"> Windows </b>and <b class="uiTerm">UNIX </b>platforms, keep the database consistent with <b class="uiTerm">UNIX </b>platforms. The <b class="uiTerm"> Windows</b> systems may use either <b class="uiTerm"> Excel</b> or<code> Xess</code> database files, while <b class="uiTerm">UNIX </b>systems must use the <code>Xess</code> format.

      <p class="para_topic">If you have <b class="uiTerm"> Windows </b> and <b class="uiTerm">UNIX</b> platforms on the same network and you choose to use <b class="uiTerm">Windows </b> and <b class="uiTerm"> Excel</b> to edit the database files, it will be necessary to convert the spreadsheets into the other format to keep both databases synchronized.

      <div class="title_division">PDW: Excel Conversion Setup File</div>
      <p class="para_division">If you're running <b class="uiTerm">Microsoft Windows</b>, you can convert <code>Xess</code> files (<b class="uiTerm">UNIX </b>format) to <b class="uiTerm"> Microsoft Excel</b> files, or from <b class="uiTerm">Excel</b> files to <code>Xess</code> files. 
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">To set up the <b class="uiTerm"> Excel</b> conversion, copy the <code>pdw_add_in.xla</code> file from the <code>PDIEWIZARD\templates</code> directory into your <code>C:\program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\XLstart</code> directory,

      <p class="para_division"> <code>C:\apps\MSOffice\Office11\XLstart</code>t directory. 
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">This file installs the conversion program necessary to convert <code>Xess</code> files into <b class="uiTerm"> Excel</b> files.
