Spot welds are created as feature sets and display in the feature tree of the Part Navigator. They are located on the CAD model based on your selections and displayed as symbols based on the type of weld.

Select geometry representing the parts joined by the weld and additional parameters to refine the location on the weld spots. The system generates the welds in 3D space, evaluates the location against customer specified rules, assigns attributes and displays the proper symbol. Choose the type of resistance spot weld, either associative or fixed, that the reference sheet method used, either overlap, top face or none and then select whether to create a series of welds using multiple or place individual welds using single.

Associative welds maintain links to their creation geometry, thus a change to that geometry will impact the location of the spot welds.

Fixed welds do not contain a link to their creation geometry and thus their location will not be impacted by a change to the original creation geometry.

The reference sheet method allows you to control how the system locates the weld spots. An overlap reference sheet calculates the intersection area of multiple face sets you select. This ensures that the placement of the weld will be in a valid area. The top face method will place the weld spots on the first face set selected and use the second face set only to derive the connected parts information. Selecting the None reference sheet allows you to create a spot weld in space. This is not recommended but available.

The creation method, either multiple or single, allows you to generate a series of welds using the same face selection or to manually locate individual weld spots. Selecting multiple requires that you specify a guide curve and spacing values. You can create the guide curve or offset it from an existing edge or calculated it to be the mid curve of selected edges. The spacing may be determined by selecting the number of spots or the distance between spots.

When creating multiple spots the reference sheet may be either an overlap sheet, created by intersecting the different faces sets, or the top face, which is the first face set selected. If weld spots are created in the single mode the option is available to create spots with no reference sheet, basically a point in space. When using overlap the system uses the selected geometry faces to locate the weld spot and gather the connected parts information. Later this geometry is removed from the weld feature set. When top face is used the first set of faces selected is used to locate the weld spot and gather its connected parts information, additional face sets will not be used in locating the welds but used only to gather the connected parts information. Therefore it is valid to select curves or edges for the 2nd, 3rd or 4th face set. All the creation geometry is later removed from the weld feature set. If spots are created with no reference sheet the geometry selected for face sets is only used to identify the connected parts information. Moving or eliminating initial creation geometry will not effect the location of a fixed weld.
