In lieu of that, the file specified with the ASSEM_OPTIONS keyword in a d= specified user defined settings file is used.
Real objects versus grouped geometry and text

Whenever programmatically possible, 2D Exchange creates real (same as the original) objects. If for any reason this is not possible, visually accurate grouped text and geometry creates instead. By its nature, 2D Exchange will replace 3D objects with visually correct 2D objects. This sometimes leads to cases where its not programmatically possible to render a real object.

Finding pattern files

The 2D Exchange translator will first look for pattern files in the directory specified by the environment variable, UGII_PATDIR. If UGII_PATDIR is undefined, then it will look in the directory where the translation was started. After looking in one or the other of those locations, it will look in the main part's directory.

Name display control

If the input part file has the Name Display option on, you will see the names of all the objects in the output part file. To avoid this behavior, you may wish to turn the names off in NX using the Visualization option on the Preferences menu. Once the Visualization dialog box is visible, go to the Names/Borders tab and set the Object Name Display to off.

Order of precedence

The translator provides multiple ways to express the order of precedence when information controlling a translation:

Command line option value.

User-defined settings file value.

Default settings file value.

Program default.

For example, an i=/lev1/a.prt command line option would take precedence over user defined or default settings file INPUT_PARTS_DIR and INPUT_PARTS_LIST entries. If you have not specified a directory, the translator will look for “a.prt” in the INPUT_PARTS_DIR. It could have a value, or it may not – in which case the translator will look for “a.prt” in the current directory.

Settings file behavior

A user defined settings file can be specified from the command line using the d= option. Some useful functionality can be controlled from the settings file, such as: input and output directories, input and output file lists, whether to convert just the current drawing or all drawings, the default output as' mode.

Unlike the command line, the internal and external NX user interfaces do not have a direct means of specifying a user defined settings file. One can change the default behavior of 2D Exchange by altering the default settings file, ugto2d.def that resides in the installation directory. This file reads when the translator starts, and before any user defined settings file is read.

The most likely alterations a site would want to make to the file would be to change the value of:

OUTPUT_PARTS_DIR=OUTPUT_TO_CURR_DIR
to

OUTPUT_PARTS_DIR= OUTPUT_TO_INPUT_DIR

If you do not supply a draw= or view= options, then the translator converts the current drawing by default.

If a specified or default drawing is empty, then nothing will appear in the converted part file.
