      <p class="para_topic">In NX, you cannot edit the objects in a component  .prt file from an upper-level .prt file. For example, suppose you have a top-level  .prt file that refers to a component  .prt file, and in that component file is an object which is the model of a bracket. If the top-level .prt file is your work part, you cannot edit the referenced bracket object within the lower-level component file.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">You can, however,  <em>promote</em> objects in a lower-level .prt file to a higher level in the assembly. Once the object has been promoted to the level of the hierarchy you are working on (the work part), you can add features to the promoted object. The original version of the object in the lower-level component is not modified.

                  <p class="para_note_body"> If you change the object in the top-level .prt file, the changes to the object are not reflected in the lower-level object. If you change the object in the lower-level .PRT file, however, the top-level object is also changed.</p>

      <p class="para_division">Suppose you want to drill a hole through the bracket, in the previous example, but you do not actually want to change the bracket .prt file because you may want to use the bracket in a different model and have a hole somewhere else. If you choose the bracket object and  <em>promote</em> it to the top-level .prt file, you can edit the bracket object in the top-level .prt file without affecting the original bracket object.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">The translator translates the promoted object only once, at the highest level to which it was promoted. If the base component .prt from which it was promoted contains no other objects, it is not included in the assembly. </p>
