When translating a hierarchy, the NX translator names each subassembly by the name of the component .prt file, an underscore, and the name of the reference set, if applicable. For example, suppose you have a component .prt file named model5, and you are using a reference set named REP. The translated subassembly is named model5_REP.

In NX, each object in a .prt file is assigned an arbitrary number called the handle. The handle is guaranteed to be unique for each object in a .prt file as long as you have not saved that file again. When you translate a component .prt file, the objects are named with the name of the component .prt file, an underscore, and the handle number.

For example, suppose you have five objects in the model5.prt file described above. After translation, one object could be named model5_89.jt, the next one could be named model5_231.jt, and so forth.

The reference set name is not included in the name of objects, because an object may be contained in more than one reference set. The handle numbers and the part names remain the same as long as you have not saved the file in NX again.

You can also name objects in NX. If you name an object, the translator adds the object name to the handle. For example, if you have named an object bolt in the model5 file described above, the object is translated as model5_bolt_89. The handle number is included with the object name because NX names different objects with the same name.
