      <p class="para_topic">There are a number of options that determine how an NX part is translated to the jt format. These options are specified in the tessellation configuration file named &quot;tess.config&quot; or &quot;tessUG.config.&quot; The file is initially set up with default configurations. You can edit the default configuration file and specify different options and/or values to customize the output.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">Unless otherwise stated, the same configuration options apply to both the translation that is run from within NX and the command line translation (ugtopv).</p>
      <div class="title_division">Locating the configuration file</div>
      <p class="para_division">The translator identifies the location of the configuration file before translation. The translator looks for the file as follows:</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">First, the translator looks for the file in your current working directory. It looks for tessUG.config, then tess.config.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">If tessUG.config is not located, the tessUG.config file located in the [NX installation]/pvtrans directory is loaded.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">If the UGII_PV_TESS_CONFIG_FILE  environment variable points to a configuration file, the values specified in this file override the default values in the tessUG.config or tess.config file.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">If you run ugtopv, and use the &quot;config=&lt;file&gt;&rdquo; option, the file specified in the environment variable UGII_PV_TESS_CONFIG_FILE is ignored.</p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <div class="title_division">Overriding the configuration file</div>
      <p class="para_division">The values specified in the value configuration file override the default configuration values. The UGII_PV_TESS_CONFIG_FILE environment variable specifies the value configuration file.</p>
      <p class="para_division">You can also override the value configuration file by using the &quot;config=&lt;file&gt;&quot; option in the command line translator (ugtopv) to locate another file. This option overrides the file specified by UGII_PV_TESS_CONFIG_FILE.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Working with configuration files</div>
      <p class="para_division">A configuration file contains the settings for your translations. When you first use the translator, either from the interface or from the command prompt, the translator uses a default configuration file for the translation. You can edit the default settings as required.</p>
      <p class="para_division">The configuration file contains the following sections:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The setup section</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The level of detail section</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The filter section</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The metadata section</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The ugConfig section</p>
         </li>
      </ul>

                  <p class="para_note_body">Since the configuration file is for several NX translators, some options in the configuration file are not used by the NX to JT translators.</p>

      <div class="title_division">Editing the configuration file</div>
      <p class="para_division">To edit any section of the configuration file, do the following:</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Open the configuration file in a text editor.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Modify the values of the options as required.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Choose <b class="uiTerm">File</b>&rarr;<b class="uiTerm">Save</b> to save the file with the default name in the directory from where you launched the translator
            </p>

            <p class="para_item">Choose <b class="uiTerm">File</b>&rarr;<b class="uiTerm">Save As</b> to save the file with a new name and location. 
            </p>

      <div class="title_division">Loading Settings</div>
      <p class="para_division">You can use previously saved settings to translate files by loading the configuration file into your new work session, or use them to run a batch translation. You can load configuration files from the translator interface (<b class="uiTerm">File</b>&rarr;<b class="uiTerm">Load Settings</b>), or from the command line by setting the <code>-z</code> option before running the translator.
