Editing a general flange uses the same dialog box as for creation. Although not required, we recommend you always edit a general flange in its formed state. Changes to some parameters will not take effect until the general flange is put into the formed state. Editing in an unformed state could cause the distortion to be incorrect.

The Adjacent Faces button is not available during editing.

Some general flanges that were created in previous versions cannot be edited with this dialog box. This includes general flanges that use curves for their bend edges. This capability is not supported for new general flanges.

The spine affects the shape of the general flange. The system constructs a general flange from cross–sections that are normal to the spine. The spine is the bend edge by default. There is an option to select a curve or set of G1 curves to define the spine. When selecting a spine, choose one that will avoid intersecting cross sections. You will generally achieve better results if you specify a spine with little curvature.

Unforming general flanges

When you unform a general flange, the system must create unformed cross section curves along the bend edge. If you have specified a spine, the system will use that spine to define the cross section planes. When selecting a spine, choose one that will avoid intersecting cross sections. You will generally achieve better results if you specify a spine with little curvature.

Applying tolerances

Several tolerances come into play during the creation or updating of a general flange. The feature tolerance (on the General Flange Options dialog box) is used to sample the bend edge. Lowering the tolerance will increase the number of sampled points; thus the resulting general flange will be more exact (it will also take longer to build). This tolerance is also used to the operation that unites the general flange to the target body. If the Unite should fail, try to increase the tolerance. You can increase the Minimum Number of Sampled Pointd to compensate for the larger tolerance in sampling the bend edge.

The Add Tangent Edges option uses the ModelingAngular Tolerance. When the general flange fails to build along an entire set of bend edges, it is possible that the edges are not G1 continuous with the ModelingAngular Tolerance. You may have to increase this value in order to get the general flange to build across these edges.
