To create a general flange, you must first select a bend edge or a set of bend edges (a bend string) that will become the start edge of the general flange. The bend string must have the following criteria:

All edges must be from the same solid or sheet body.

They must be G1 continuous.

The faces that own the edges must be G1 continuous.

When you select the bend edge, the system will highlight the attachment face upon which the General Flange will build. The bend direction will display as a temporary vector. Also, the start of the bend edge is designated using temporary text display. It is important to differentiate between the start and end of the bend edge, especially when defining law functions and also when extending section curves.

Note that the general flange will not necessarily cover the entire attachment face. The length of the bend edge(s) and spine, not the attachment face, controls the extent of the general flange.

You must select edges (not curves). The system will filter your selections to ensure that it meets these criteria. It is acceptable to select bend edges that form a closed loop. You may set the selection Filter to choose Solid Edges, Sheet Body Edges, or All Edges.

You may have the system automatically select all tangent edges by turning on the Add Tangent Edges option. The system selects these edges after you select a seed edge. As the model changes, the system will guarantee selection of all tangent edges. This option only enables while in the Bend String selection step.

When you select a bend string on a solid body, the system infers an extension direction, and tangent and attachment faces on the target body. You may change this inference by pressing the Adjacent Faces button. If you have selected edges from a sheet body, you do not need the Adjacent Faces option.
