      </table><br><p class="para_topic">Once you select <b class="uiTerm">Start Position</b>, the starting face highlights and the status changes to Highlighting starting face. Next, the system displays a standard <b class="uiTerm">Point Constructor</b> dialog box. You may then indicate a new position on the starting face using any of the standard point construction methods.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">The selected point must lie on the starting face. The system will enforce this rule by projecting the point to the face. If the point doesn't project, the system will use the closest point on the face to the selected point.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">Use the starting position for two purposes. First, if the <b class="uiTerm">Location</b> is <b class="uiTerm">Start Position</b>, the flat pattern creates at the starting position. If the Location is <b class="uiTerm">WCS</b>, the starting position maps to the origin of the WCS.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">The second use of the starting position is as the location from which all distortion radiates. The first figure below shows a sheet metal part that is made of one face flattened as area preserving. The second and third figures show the resulting flat patterns that you can create with different starting positions.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">Choose a <b class="uiTerm">Start Position</b> using the standard <b class="uiTerm">Point Constructor</b> dialog box.

      <div class="title_division">Starting orientation</div>
      <p class="para_division">Use the <b class="uiTerm">Starting Orientation</b> only if the <b class="uiTerm">Location</b> is<b class="uiTerm"> WCS</b>. A standard <b class="uiTerm">Vector Constructor</b> dialog box appears. Choose the vector on the starting face that you want to align with the X&ndash;axis of the <b class="uiTerm">Work Coordinate System</b>. The system will project the vector onto a plane tangent to the starting face at the starting point if necessary.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">If you do not set the <b class="uiTerm">Starting Orientation</b>, the flat pattern orientation will derive from the UV parameterization of the starting face. The system will align the U direction at the starting point with the X&ndash;axis of the <b class="uiTerm">Work Coordinate System</b>.
