      </table><br><p class="para_topic">You may not want some faces flattened as area&ndash;preserving. Instead the face may need to distort when formed, and not preserve its area. A case where you may want a distortion face is when the face must stretch, compress, or buckle when the part forms.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">An example of distortion faces appears below. Here the part flattens in two ways. The first method appears in the second figure. Here, faces 5 and 8 are selected as distortion faces. The second method appears in the third figure. Here faces 2 and 5 are selected as the distortion faces.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">The status changes to <b class="uiTerm">Highlighting</b> distortion faces when you choose <b class="uiTerm">Distortion Faces</b>, and all of the faces identified automatically or previously chosen as distortion faces highlight. The <b class="uiTerm">Class Selection</b> dialog box appears and the cue prompts you to select distortion faces. You may then select the faces to distort. The status changes to: Choose <b class="uiTerm">OK</b> when you select a face to finish selecting distortion faces. You may then select more distortion faces or choose <b class="uiTerm">OK</b>, <b class="uiTerm">Back</b>, or <b class="uiTerm">Cancel</b>.

                  <p class="para_note_body">When you flatten a distortion face, it may stretch or compress. This stretching or compressing continues through the flattened sheet metal part until it reaches the edge of the part. Therefore, when you select distortion faces, insure that a distortion face is next to the edge, or next to a set of distortion faces that is next to the edge of the sheet metal part.</p>

                  <p class="para_note_body">The distortion face flattening algorithm requires that previous faces map three edges of the face before you can map the remaining edges. Therefore, the algorithm may not always yield the desired results.</p>
