      </table><br><p class="para_topic">The woven materials algorithm uses a grid size you specify during the internal process of locating the node points on the surface to be flattened. You will learn from experience what the optimum grid size is for the types of surfaces you encounter. Past studies have shown that grid sizes ranging from .1 to 1 inch give good results. Small grid sizes can greatly increase the amount of computer processing time required to develop a flattened representation.</p>

                  <p class="para_note_body">The grid size discussed is not referring to the grid superimposed on the output flat pattern by the application. The U&ndash;V grid spacing in effect for surfaces produced by NX controls that grid.</p>

      <div class="title_division">Mapping control and flat pattern location</div>
      <p class="para_division">As previously discussed, NX develops a parametric U&ndash;V coordinate system on surfaces. The orientation of this coordinate system is used to define the orientation of the flattened representation.</p>
      <p class="para_division">The output flat pattern is oriented on the X&ndash;Y Plane of the current work coordinate system. The selected start point on the surface is located at the origin of the WCS. Three options are available for mapping U&ndash;V points to the X direction of the flat pattern:</p>
