These parameters affect formable sheet metal features such as the flange, inset flange, general flange, bend, and bridge. These parameters also affect the Flat Pattern application. Once turned on, any formable feature will create with a reference to this global parameter. For example, once you have set up a global bend allowance formula in this dialog box, any flange feature you create will reference the global formula. In addition, if you change your global parameter, any feature created referencing that parameter will be updated to reflect the change.

The dialog box of a feature that uses global parameters will change when you turn on a global parameter. For example, if you turn on a global bend allowance formula, you will find that the Flange dialog box no longer has a Bend Allowance Formula button on it. This is because the Flange feature will use the bend allowance formula you set up on the Global Parameters dialog box. By defining these global parameters, you can make the feature dialog boxes quite simple.

On the Options dialog box of a feature that uses global parameters, you will find option buttons to temporarily disable the global parameters while creating or editing one feature. In other words, if you have created a global bend allowance formula, but want to create one flange using a different formula, you can click on the Options button on the Flange dialog box and then turn off the global bend allowance formula button. This one Flange feature will ignore the global parameter and use the bend allowance formula you set up by clicking on the Bend Allowance Formula button on the Flange's main dialog box. You can also edit a feature and change it to use a global parameter or change it to use its own parameter instead of the global parameter.
