      </table><br><p class="para_topic">The following topicss define the recommended steps for maintaining an entry&ndash;level part library. The types of changes discussed are adding a part family member to an existing part family, modifying an existing part family member, deleting a family member, and adding a complete new part family to the part library.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">This topic does not discuss details of changes to a part class hierarchy, which is defined by a  <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('routingadmin/lib_overview.html');return(false);">Part Library View File.</a>.

      <div class="title_division">Cross check and Update NX part families</div>
      <p class="para_division">The part library changes outlined here all share a common step of updating the NX part families using update_fam_from_ptb. The recommended best practices for updating NX part families are:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Run update_fam_from_ptb using the default <b class="uiTerm">Cross check</b> option. Refer to the update_err_log.txt file for messages. If errors are reported, correct the Part Table or the part families.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Run update_fam_from_ptb using the <b class="uiTerm">Update</b> option. Refer to the update_err_log.txt file for messages. If errors are reported, correct the Part Table or the part families and repeat this step.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Perform a final crosscheck by running update_fam_from_ptb using the default <b class="uiTerm">Cross check</b> option.
            </p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <p class="para_division">The default <b class="uiTerm">Cross check</b> option of update_fam_from_ptb can be used at any time to test the validity of the entry-level part library.
      </p>
      <div class="title_division">Edit part table</div>
      <p class="para_division">Since the Part Tables contain the master data, the part library changes outlined here all require a Part Table to be changed. The recommended steps for editing a Part Table are:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Convert the Part Table to a spreadsheet format using ptb2ss.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Edit the Part Table using any spreadsheet application.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Convert the Part Table to the entry&ndash;level part library format using ss2ptb.</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <p class="para_division">If desired, Part Tables are ASCII files and can be easily edited with a text editor.</p>
