Access this function from the Stock dialog box, to rename stock components. This will also change the status of a stock component from temporary to permanent. Renaming a stock component does several things. First, all loaded occurrences of the stock component modify to reflect the new part name. The PART_NUMBER attribute on all occurrences of the stock component changes to be the same as the new leaf name of the part. This rename operation is a Save As type operation, meaning a new part will create with the desired name but the original part will still exist. This new part does not write to disk until you actually save the part.

The Rename Stock function first calls the STOCK_COMPONENT_NAME user exit to get the name of the new component. The system renames the part. All references to the renamed part, by parts open in the session, modify to reflect the new part name.

When you select multiple components, the STOCK_COMPONENT_NAME user exit and rename operation start on each part.

After all stock components have been renamed, the list of parts that have been renamed appear in the listing window. The parts in the listing still exist, and you should remove them if they are no longer referenced.
