However, such a feature may be lost if the stock body updates such that the stock body is regenerated. Making a stock featureable requires that each segment that defines the stock have a single solid body so that regeneration is not likely. The Enable Features functionality does this by forcing the stock to be a set of single bodies (one per segment). These single bodies re-sweep only if the segments that define them are subdivided or simplified.

Apply features to these two sweeps. However there are several caveats to creating features on these solid bodies. The first is that in Stock as Components mode, these two bodies may not exist in the same part after a piece of stock as been split or merged. This means that any features that depend on both solid bodies may delete if that piece of stock is merged or split. However any features that depend solely on one of the bodies will not be deleted, as this feature will be copied along with its underlying body when a split or merge occurs. Another issue is that the underlying segments for each of the solid bodies may be subdivided, or simplified. Features applied to these subdivided segments may not survive a split along the path of the subdivided segments.

The screens below show a groove feature applied to one of the stock solids.

When the stock is updated, unites are created along these solid bodies. The created unites may be automatically deleted by stock update later on, so it is not recommended that features be applied to the united stock bodies. Any features applied to the united stock bodies will be deleted when the unite feature they are dependent upon is deleted. If more features need to be added to stock, then these unites should be deleted either by using the Part Navigator, or by using the Enable Features function in the Stock dialog box.
