There are a few necessary steps to follow to correctly perform formboard synchronization. First, if the assembly does not currently have an associated master assembly as a subcomponent, you must specify the file to synchronize against. Formboards generated in NX version 17.0 will need to process for the electrical assembly to synchronize. In NX version 18.0 version and beyond, formboard parts will contain an attribute that identifies this assembly. Since the formboard may be detached from its original assembly, you must specify which assembly is the master to the formboard you are updating. With the correct file identified, you can then proceed to the synchronization process. You can perform various levels of synchronization, from doing nothing automatically and only generating messages as to discrepancies between the formboard and original assembly, to automatically adjusting segment lengths and object positions and updating annotations in the formboard.

In every case, you will see a multilist selection window with messages from the synchronization process. When you select each message the affected objects highlight in the graphics display. You can perform global operations on the list by using one or more of the options in the Fix Discrepancies window.

The synchronization process generally involves comparing the netlist and component lists of the formboard assembly against those of the component assembly. Any differences found will display in the Fix Discrepancies window. You may then attempt to fix any or all of the discrepancies presented. For example, if a wire length for a particular wire is different between the two netlists (the formboard vs. the original assembly), the wire is scrutinized to identify the offending segment(s) in the formboard assembly. You can lengthen these segments automatically or you can simply them for display in the Fix Discrepancies window.

In general follow these steps:
