The Routing Electrical application is a special case because the stock part is "selected" automatically during the routing of wires. You do not navigate through the hierarchy defined by the PLV file but, rather, the system determines the stock (wire or cable) to be assigned based on dynamic input box values of the connection list. Tailoring a PLV file for the Routing Electrical application requires the understanding of the process used by the system to locate the part table files referenced by the PLV file.

First, the system looks for the node named WIRES. If found, all PTB files underneath that node (or its sub–nodes), are searched for a stock with dynamic input box values matching the values supplied by the connection list. If there is no WIRES node, the system searches for a node named WIRE_TABLE. If found, the PTB files referenced by that node (or its sub–nodes), are searched for a match. If there is no WIRE_TABLE node in the PLV, the system will search for any PTB file referenced by the STOCK node. If none of these three nodes are defined, the search fails and the sire is not routed.
