      <p class="para_topic">Use <b class="uiTerm">Place Part</b> to choose and place parts into a routing assembly. <b class="uiTerm">Place Part</b> involves a series of steps, as follows:
      </p>

            <p class="para_item">Choose <b class="uiTerm">Destination Object</b> (<b class="uiTerm">Specify Item</b> dialog box).
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Select the part to place (<b class="uiTerm">Specify Item</b> dialog box).
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Enter characteristic values, as necessary (<b class="uiTerm">Specify Item</b> dialog box).
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Choose <b class="uiTerm">Placement Solution</b> (<b class="uiTerm">Place Part</b> dialog box).
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Choose <b class="uiTerm">Placement Options</b> (<b class="uiTerm">Place Part</b> dialog box).
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"><b class="uiTerm">Transform</b>, if necessary (<b class="uiTerm">Place Part</b> dialog box).
            </p>

      <div class="title_division">Specify Item dialog box</div>
      <p class="para_division">When you choose the <b class="uiTerm">Place Part</b> tool, the <b class="uiTerm">Specify Item</b> dialog box appears. In this dialog box, you select the <b class="uiTerm">Destination Object</b>, select the part, and enter the <b class="uiTerm">Required</b> and <b class="uiTerm">Optional Characteristic</b> values.

                  <p class="para_note_body">The <b class="uiTerm">Specify Item</b> dialog box is large. &nbsp;At any time you may press the F3 key to temporarily remove the dialog box and then press F3 again to restore the dialog box.

      <div class="title_division">Select destination object</div>
      <p class="para_division">The first action is to select an object in the graphics window to locate the new part. The buttons along the top of the dialog let you control your selection, or allow you to define a point using standard methods. By selecting the <b class="uiTerm">Destination Object</b>, you set values for the <b class="uiTerm">Destination Characteristics</b>. &nbsp;Provided your current Discipline defines <b class="uiTerm">Destination Characteristics</b>, the parts offered for selection are only those parts that have matching destination characteristics with the destination object selected.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">For example, if the current <b class="uiTerm">Discipline</b> defines NPS as a <b class="uiTerm">Destination Characteristic</b>, and you select a port on a valve as the destination object that has the characteristic NPS=10, then only parts that also have NPS=10 are selectable. &nbsp;Note that parts that do not have the characteristic NPS at all will be selectable.
      </p>

                  <p class="para_note_body">If you have just placed one part and are going to place another, initially you can select the part just placed in the <b class="uiTerm">Specify Item</b> dialog box. Selecting the <b class="uiTerm">Destination Object</b> re&ndash;filters the part selection according to the <b class="uiTerm">Destination Characteristics</b> of the destination object. &nbsp;This may cause the previously selected part to become unselected.

      <div class="title_division">Choose part</div>
      <p class="para_division">Once you choose the <b class="uiTerm">Destination Object</b>, you choose the part you want to place from the left panel of the <b class="uiTerm">Specify Item</b> dialog box. This panel displays some hierarchy as defined by your <b class="uiTerm">Part Library View</b> definition.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">Double clicking a node expands the node to show either more nodes underneath, or a list of selectable part names.&nbsp;If you select a part, the name appears in the Item <b class="uiTerm">Name</b> box.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">The second panel provides <b class="uiTerm">Selection Characteristics</b>, which are <b class="uiTerm">Specification</b>, <b class="uiTerm">Destination</b> and <b class="uiTerm">Descriptor Characteristics</b>.&nbsp;Determine the <b class="uiTerm">Specification Characteristics</b> by the current specification, as defined by installation. Only parts matching the current Specification are selectable.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">The<b class="uiTerm"> Destination Characteristics</b> are those characteristics that match the selected <b class="uiTerm">Destination Object</b>. Typically you should not choose a different <b class="uiTerm">Destination Characteristic</b> values since the selected part would not match the destination object.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division"><b class="uiTerm">Descriptor Characteristics</b> are the values that define particular parts. You can choose different <b class="uiTerm">Descriptor Characteristics</b> to help you choose a satisfactory part. When you do choose a part from the left panel, these characteristics update to show the characteristics of the selected part.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">Choose characteristic values by selecting an entry in the list menu, accessed by clicking on the down arrow next to the entry. Once you enter a <b class="uiTerm">Descriptor Characteristic</b> value, the list of available parts in the first panel updates to show only those parts having that characteristic value.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">Alternatively, you may type into a characteristic value box a filter using an asterisk to match all characters for a string value or a numeric expression for decimal or integer values. A numeric expression may contain the following characters: &gt; (greater than), &lt; (Less than). = (equal to ), &gt;= (greater than or equal to), or &lt;= (Less than or equal to). Only those parts having characteristic values matching the expressions are displayed for selection after you press enter.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Required and optional characteristic</div>
      <p class="para_division">Once you have chosen a <b class="uiTerm">Destination Object</b> and chosen a part, the <b class="uiTerm">Specify Item</b> dialog box expands so you can enter any <b class="uiTerm">Required</b> or<b class="uiTerm"> Optional Characteristic</b> values. The current <b class="uiTerm">Discipline</b> defines these characteristics.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">You must provide a value for any <b class="uiTerm">Required Characteristic</b> shown. The <b class="uiTerm">OK</b> button does not become sensitive until you do. You can leave the <b class="uiTerm">Optional Characteristics</b> blank.

                  <p class="para_note_body">Values for both <b class="uiTerm">Required</b> and <b class="uiTerm">Optional Characteristics</b> are retained from the last <b class="uiTerm">Part Placement</b>. &nbsp;Be careful not to accept these values if they should be different than the last part you placed.
