PCB.xchange provides a variety of settings and options with which you can customize your work environment. The most common settings can be made using menu commands, others must be made by using an ASCII text editor to manually modify one of two initialization files: pcbx_ug.ini and pcbx_ug_model.ini. This article explains how to use these files to modify default settings.

These two files are part of the installation and are not normally modified by the user. However, if you copy one or both of these files and place them in the working directory or your home directory you can modify these files with a text editor and alter the default settings.

The working directory is defined as the directory from which PCB.xchange is launched (typically the same directory from which NX is launched). The home directory is an environment variable defined by a system administrator for a specific user. PCB.xchange first looks for the initialization file in the working directory. If it does not find it, PCB.xchange looks in the user's home directory. If the file is not there, it uses the file in the PCB.xchange installation.
