      <p class="para_topic">There are three types of characteristics associated with stock: <b class="uiTerm">Descriptor</b>, <b class="uiTerm">Required</b>, and <b class="uiTerm">Optional</b>. You can assign descriptor characteristics through the stock part file selection process when using part tables or they may be assigned through <b class="uiTerm">Qualify Part</b> when the stock profile is qualified (see  <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('routingtools/parts_quality.html');return(false);">Qualify Part</a>).
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic"><b class="uiTerm">Required</b> and <b class="uiTerm">Optional</b> characteristics, as defined by the application view, are values defined for each assignment of the stock, so each assignment of the stock may carry different values. These types of characteristics must be defined in the application view file (see <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.popUpPage('routingadmin/index.html?goto=routingadmin/view_overview.html&vars=-aux,-home','linkInter','menubar=yes,status=yes,resizable=yes,toolbar=yes,scrollbars=yes,location=no,directories=no');return(false);">Routing Systems Configuration Guide &ndash; Application View Files</a>).
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic"><b class="uiTerm">Overstock</b> has an additional characteristic named OVERSTOCK_TYPE. The characteristic is required for the system to recognize it as being overstock. The valid values for this characteristic are <b class="uiTerm">Wrapped</b>, <b class="uiTerm">Flagged</b>, <b class="uiTerm">Sleeved</b>, and <b class="uiTerm">Fixed</b>. The part table must specify one of these values.

      <div class="title_division">Stock anchors</div>
      <p class="para_division">Use<b class="uiTerm"> Stock Anchors</b> to define the alignment of the profile curves with the path. Define profile curves and anchors on the XY plane of the stock part. By default, you align the origin of the stock part with the path. Optionally, you may define any number of stock anchors. You may then choose the stock anchor to use for path alignment. The following figure shows an example of how you can use a stock anchor to define the alignment of the profile curves with a path segment.
