      </table><br><p class="para_topic">The <b class="uiTerm">Run Type</b> entry is a menu option.&nbsp;The active APV file provides the list of available <b class="uiTerm">Run Types</b> on a per <b class="uiTerm">Discipline</b> basis. The default is the first <b class="uiTerm">Run Type</b> defined in the APV file for the active <b class="uiTerm">Discipline</b>. <b class="uiTerm">Run Type</b> may be changed during any of the three selection steps.
      </p>
      <div class="title_division"> Step 1: Select From Items</div>

      <p class="para_division">Step 1 allows you to select the <b class="uiTerm">From Items</b> of the run from the graphics window. Valid object for selections are components, stock, ports, and RCPs. Stock and RCPs are selectable only if they are members of a run. Selection of a segment or a stock body may indicate a stock (standard Routing behavior).
      </p>

               <p class="para_td">Component Selection</p>

               <p class="para_td">If a component is selected (either <b class="uiTerm">Equipment</b> or <b class="uiTerm">In&ndash;Line</b> item), the REFERENCE_ID of the component (such as the value of the characteristic titled REFERENCE_ID) is entered into the list window of the dialog box in the Item column. If the REFERENCE_ID characteristic is not assigned to the selected <b class="uiTerm">From Item</b>, the <b class="uiTerm">Edit Characteristics</b> dialog box is displayed to allow the user to add a value for REFERENCE_ID (or any other optional characteristics for which he might choose to provide a value). REFERENCE_ID (or a synonym thereof) is assumed to be designated an optional characteristic in the APV file. In PID, REFERENCE_ID should be a <b class="uiTerm">Required Characteristic</b>, so this particular situation does not occur.
               </p>
               <p class="para_td">The ports contained in the selected component are made available as a shortcut menu, active when the cursor is in the <b class="uiTerm">Port</b> option of that item. These are listed alphabetically. The default port is determined by the following:
               </p>

                     <p class="para_item">If only one port exists in the component, it is the default.</p>
                  </li>
                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item">If only one port has a segment attached to it, it is the default.</p>
                  </li>
                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item">If only one port has a segment attached to it that is not already assigned to a run, it is the default.</p>
                  </li>
                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item">If none of the above cases are true, the first port listed that is not already connected to a segment that is part of a run is the default.</p>
                  </li>
               </ol>
            </td>
         </tr>

               <p class="para_td">Port Selection</p>

               <p class="para_td">You may select a port to indicate a <b class="uiTerm">From Item</b>. &nbsp;The component to which the port belongs is identified as the actual <b class="uiTerm">From Item</b>, and the selected port is used as the default port. The same processing takes place if the component does not have a REFERENCE_ID, where the <b class="uiTerm">Edit Characteristics</b> dialog box is presented.
               </p>

               <p class="para_td">Using a Virtual Item</p>

               <p class="para_td">You may specify a <b class="uiTerm">Virtual From Item</b> by entering an identifier string in the <b class="uiTerm">Virtual Reference Identifier</b> box. A virtual <b class="uiTerm">From Item</b> does not exist as a component in the assembly. This may be used as a placeholder for when the component becomes available, or it may represent a non-physical location.
               </p>
            </td>

               <p class="para_td">Stock Selection</p>
            </td>
            <td bgcolor="#f7f7f7" colspan="1" rowspan="1">
               <p class="para_td">You may select a stock as a <b class="uiTerm">From Item</b> only if the stock is a member of an existing run. The value of the RUN_ID of the run of which the segment is a member is displayed in the <b class="uiTerm">Item</b> box of the <b class="uiTerm">From Item List</b>. The <b class="uiTerm">Port</b> box remains blank.
               </p>
            </td>

               <p class="para_td">RCP Selection</p>
            </td>

               <p class="para_td">You may select an RCP if the RCP is a member of a run. &nbsp;Like Stock, the value of the RUN_ID of the run of which the RCP is a member is displayed in the <b class="uiTerm">Item</b> box of the <b class="uiTerm">From Item List</b>. The <b class="uiTerm">Port</b> box remains blank.
               </p>
            </td>

               <p class="para_td">Right-click (shortcut) menu commands</p>

            <td bgcolor="#f7f7f7" colspan="1" rowspan="1">
               <p class="para_td">Two shortcut menus commands are available. If the cursor is in the <b class="uiTerm">Item</b> box of the list, the following options are available:
               </p>
               <ul>
                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item"><b class="uiTerm">Remove</b> &ndash; removes this item as a <b class="uiTerm">From Item</b></p>
                  </li>
                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item"><b class="uiTerm">Make To Item</b> &ndash; changes this into a <b class="uiTerm">To ItemI</b>, (the item will now appear in the <b class="uiTerm">To Item</b> list of <b class="uiTerm">Selection Step 2</b>).
                     </p>
                  </li>
               </ul>
               <p class="para_td">If you position the cursor over the <b class="uiTerm">Port</b> box of an entry in the list, the shortcut menu consists of the list of all the ports belonging to the <b class="uiTerm">From Item</b>. The currently designated port is grayed out in the list. Choosing another port in the list changes the designated port for that <b class="uiTerm">From Item</b>.
               </p>
            </td>

               <p class="para_td">Use of a Weld Component</p>
            </td>
            <td bgcolor="#f7f7f7" colspan="1" rowspan="1">
               <p class="para_td">An alternative to selecting a stock or an RCP to indicate a run as the <b class="uiTerm">From Item</b> is to place a special component at the location where the two runs are joined. This component has a fitting port to be used to connect one stock into another and a fixture port to locate the part onto a segment.
               </p>
               <p class="para_td">The weld component should be a member of the run which is a <b class="uiTerm">From</b> or <b class="uiTerm">To Item</b>.
               </p>

      </table><br><div class="title_division"> Step 2: Select To Items</div>

      <p class="para_division">Selection Step 2 behaves the same as Step 1. &nbsp;The only difference is that it is a list of <b class="uiTerm">To Items</b> rather than <b class="uiTerm">From Items</b>.
      </p>
      <div class="title_division">Step 3: Select members</div>

      <p class="para_division">Selection step 3 is optional. &nbsp;As<b class="uiTerm"> From</b> and <b class="uiTerm">To Items</b> are identified, paths connecting those items at the designated ports are highlighted, along with any fittings or stocks laying along those paths as members of the run. If at the completion of <b class="uiTerm">From and To Item</b> selection the members that are automatically identified are correct, step 3 is not necessary.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">However, if the automatically selected run members are not correct, the user may use Step 3 to modify the set of members. This is done through standard Routing path selections tools (refer to <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('routingtools/stock_assign.html');return(false);">Assign Stock</a> documentation for further description of this selection operation). Any items may be selected of deselected although a run cannot be created if valid paths do not exist connecting the <b class="uiTerm">From Items</b> to the <b class="uiTerm">To Items</b>.
      </p>
      <div class="title_division">OK and Apply</div>
      <p class="para_division">When the criteria for a complete run definition are met, <b class="uiTerm">OK</b> and <b class="uiTerm">Apply</b> are sensitive. Selecting <b class="uiTerm">OK</b> creates the run and dismisses the dialog box, returning to the <b class="uiTerm">Manage Runs</b> dialog box (with the newly created run added to the list of runs). Selecting <b class="uiTerm">Apply</b> creates the run just as <b class="uiTerm">OK</b> does, but the dialog box remains active, reset to define another run (all boxes blank), at Selection Step 1.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">A check is made before the run is created to verify that the run identifier entered is not being used as the <b class="uiTerm">Run Identifier</b> for another run in the routing. If so, a message displays notifying you of the problem when <b class="uiTerm">OK</b> or <b class="uiTerm">Apply</b> is chosen. The dialog box stays active, with the entered <b class="uiTerm">Run Identifier</b> value still displaying the entered text. You must modify the <b class="uiTerm">Run Identifier</b> text to a unique value in order to create the run.
      </p>
