Assembly operations

The following Assemblies operations may affect an SOP. The expected behavior of the SOP and associated objects when these operations take place are described here. These behaviors mainly depend on the fact that SOP dependent ports are extracted from the component into the work part when a SOP port is referenced in the electrical assembly. The extracted port has a copy of the information contained by the prototype port, allowing the extracted port to respond to changes in the assembly, such as a change of stock diameter – irrespective of the parent component load status.

Add Component

As with adding any routing part to an assembly, the Routing Place Part should be used when placing a component containing an SOP. Assemblies→Add Component can also be used to place SOP qualified ports on routing segments.

Reference sets

You can represent a component in an assembly by a reference set, which excludes the loading of objects within the component. If an SOP dependent port is included in the reference set then full associativity is maintained. If an SOP dependent port is excluded from the reference set then any modification to the port definition in the component is not recognized until the port becomes loaded in the assembly. For instance, if the Distance Expression of the SOP is changed in the component and saved, the assembly in which the component is loaded with a reference set not containing the port continues to use the previous definition of the Distance Expression (as defined when the component occurrence last included the port).

Assemblies allows components to not be loaded when the assembly is retrieved through Partial Loading, which give rise to a component containing an SOP dependent port not being loaded. In this case, the extracted port continues to behave as defined when the component was last loaded.
