      </table><br><p class="para_topic">The Routing <b class="uiTerm">Preferences Disciplines</b> tab sets the current<b class="uiTerm"> Discipline</b> and <b class="uiTerm">Specification</b>. The installation, through the APV file, determines the <b class="uiTerm">Disciplines</b> and <b class="uiTerm">Specifications</b> available to you.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">Choose the <b class="uiTerm">Discipline</b> best suited for the work you are doing. A <b class="uiTerm">Discipline</b> determines the parts that are available for selection from the part library, whether they are for piping, tubing, conduit or any other design methodology. The <b class="uiTerm">Discipline</b> also sets the different types of characteristics sets, consisting of: <b class="uiTerm">Destination</b>, <b class="uiTerm">Stationary</b>, <b class="uiTerm">Required</b>, <b class="uiTerm">Optional</b>, and<b class="uiTerm"> Fabrication</b> characteristics.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">The current <b class="uiTerm">Specification</b> establishes the set of <b class="uiTerm">Specification Characteristics</b> and their possible values. Under a certain <b class="uiTerm">Specification</b>, part selection is limited to those parts that do have these characteristics with matching values, or those parts that do not carry these characteristics.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">Note that you can change the current <b class="uiTerm">Specification</b> both through <b class="uiTerm">Preferences</b> and by choosing a different <b class="uiTerm">Specification</b> from the <b class="uiTerm">Specify Item</b> dialog box.&nbsp;Either method produces the same result. You should not switch <b class="uiTerm">Specifications</b> when working on a particular assembly to avoid having a mixture of parts from different <b class="uiTerm">Specifications</b>.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic"><img align="bottom" src="graphics/exclamation.gif" border="0"> &nbsp;All information about the currently active <b class="uiTerm">Discipline</b> or <b class="uiTerm">Specification</b> displays in the <b class="uiTerm">Information Window</b> when you choose the respective button.&nbsp;Note that the <b class="uiTerm">Discipline</b> information includes information about all available <b class="uiTerm">Specifications</b>.
