The way in which the other parameters are changed is described below. To guarantee that a parameter does not change during the following calculations, you should lock the value of that parameter by clicking the Lock button next to it. Any value that you change is treated as if it were locked for the immediately following calculation (that is, it will not be changed again by the dialog box). If the other parameters cannot change to fit the overstock along the path, then the value you changed is returned to its previous value and you will be given an explanatory message. The dialog box will not allow you to enter a set of values that cannot fit on the selected path. In the following discussion, overstock length means the distance from the beginning of the first piece of overstock to the end of the last piece, for example, if there were two (2) pieces of 10 mm overstock with a gap of 30 mm, the overstock length would be (2)*10 mm + 30 mm = 50 mm.

In this case, the last piece of overstock will be 1.68 meters from the end. After application, you decide that you want the last piece exactly one meter from the end and the one meter gap is not important. You edit the overstock and return to this section of the dialog box. The values you had entered are still in the dialog box, but the locks are not set (except for piece length). You lock the start and end offsets at 1000.0, make sure the gap is unlocked and change the number of pieces to 9. The gap changes to 955.0.
