Use the Electrical Component Navigator to assign Identifiers, also known as reference designators, to electrical components in a Routing Electrical assembly. These identifiers allow a unique or non-unique identifier for each component in the assembly. If unique ID's are used, then the components can be auto assigned, otherwise manual assignment will be needed.

Electrical components are either devices or connectors. Each component must have an ID assigned in order for the Connection Navigator to reference the component. All components referenced in the connection list must have an entry in the component list and an ID assigned to its occurrence in the assembly to enable routing of wires. For a detailed description of the required fields, refer to Smart Fields.

You may import a comma delimited Component Navigator into the part file or the list may be imported through a XML file. An imported component list usually includes a box for the component's unique identifier along with a box for the component's part number. In this case, the Component Navigator function uses the part number to aid you in the assignment of the unique identifier to the component occurrence in the assembly.

The Electrical Component Navigator automatically keeps track of special smart fields that contain specific information. Smart fields create for every component list in addition to any fields specified in the file format. The smart fields are:

unique_id – specifies the Unique ID for a device component.

It is not necessary to have a device (unique_id) defined in order to designate a connector (connector_id). The system manages the Occur box and the Routed box. The Routed box displays an A if wires have been automatically routed to this component, a M if it has been routed to manually, or an N if it has not been routed (wires are not currently connected to it).

The format used for importing may define any number of fields but consider all those not listed above in a smart field as a dumb fields. This means that the system does not alter the values of these fields.
