      </table><br><p class="para_topic">Each routing application references an application view file to set up the application for its intended purpose. An application view selects specific&nbsp;Routing capabilities available to a routing application and specifies customizable options. An application view file for a piping application is quite different than one for a wiring application.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">Prior to NX 3, the APV file was a proprietary format text file. NX 3 supports two different formats, the old text format and the XML format.&nbsp;The newer format, XML APV, uses the XML standard for syntax definition. <b class="uiTerm">Disciplines</b> and <b class="uiTerm">Specifications</b>, are not supported by the Text APV format.&nbsp;NX 4 does not support the older text format; XML formatted APV files <em>must</em> be used.

      <p class="para_topic">An application is fully defined by four main types of files when operating in the native file system mode. These types are the <b class="uiTerm">Application View</b> file (.apv), the Part Library View file (.plv), the Part Table file (.ptb), and the Part files (.prt). The relationships are that the APV file calls out a PLV file, the PLV file calls out many PTB files, and each PTB file may reference one or more PRT files. If <b class="uiTerm">Teamcenter Classification</b> is used, PLV files and PTB files are not used.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">When you select a routing application, the Application View file and the referenced Part Library View file are loaded. If there are problems loading these files an error dialog box appears. You should also reference the NX log file (from the main menu <b class="uiTerm">Help&rarr;NX Log File</b>). The last error reported will provide information about the file and error causing the problem. The log file may also contain information about problems loading Part Table files.
