Files to be imported must reside in a native OS directory. If the connection data files are maintained within Teamcenter or other database, the files must be exported from the database in order to be read into NX.

Exporting connection data

You may need to export the wire list information in order to back–annotate a schematics drawing, pass information to manufacturing, or update your PDM system. You can define and apply export formats similarly to import formats (above).

Logical connectivity display

The Connection Navigator provides the ability to graphically view the logical connectivity of each entry. For each selected entry in the connection list, which has its connectivity defined; a temporary straight line draws from start point to end point of the connection.

Wire routing

Wires listed in the connection list route automatically or manually. The Automatic option assigns each selected wire to the shortest path that connects the two referenced components. The Manual option allows you to choose between all the possible paths to select the best one. You can reroute previously routed wires at any time.

If the path segments of a wire are hidden, the wire is not routed unless another path is available. However, if segments of the path are on a layer that is not visible, the wire will be routed. Hidden segments cause a wire not to route but segments on a layer that is not visible do not prevent a wire from being routed.

Jumper wires

A connection list may include a wire that has the same from and to connector. This is a jumper wire. You can model such a wire by creating a path segment from pin to pin on the connector, provided that connector is qualified with the appropriate ports. The system enters the modeled length as the length of the wire when routed. However, this is not necessary.

The Auto Route function determines if a wire has the same from and to connector. If so, and there is no modeled path available to route that wire, and the length value is zero, the length of that wire is designated to be the default jumper length. The application view file (.apv suffix) defines the default Jumper Length.

The box, ROUTE_WIRE_TYPE, assigns the value of Jumper for the wire, if Auto Route so designates the length of the wire. This is the only circumstance that the system provides a value for ROUTE_WIRE_TYPE.

Graphical cross–referencing

Relations between the model and the Connection Navigator display easily. With the Connection Navigator displayed, you can select on a bundle in the graphics window to highlight the entries of the Connection Navigator that represent the wires running through that bundle. You can select a component to highlight the entries of wires that terminate that component. In the Connection Navigator, you can choose an entry and, if routed, its path highlights in the model.

Relationships between the Connection Navigator and Component Navigator are also maintained. If you have an entry in the Connection Navigator selected and go to the Component Navigator, then the components to which that wire are connected highlight in the Component Navigator. Conversely, you can select an entry of the component list and cause the entries of wires connected to the selected component to highlight when in the Connection Navigator by choosing View Connections from the right–click menu (see Component Navigator for details).
