      <p class="para_topic">NX Nastran is executed with a command called nastran.  (Your system administrator may assign a different name to the command.)  The nastran command permits the specification of keywords used to request options affecting NX Nastran job execution.  The format of the nastran command is: </p><pre class="indent">nastran input_data_file [keyword1 = value1  keyword2 = value2 ...]</pre><p class="para_topic">where input_data_file is the name of the file containing the input data and keyword<sub class="subscript">i</sub>=value<sub class="subscript">i</sub> is one or more optional keyword assignment arguments.  For example, to run a job using the data file example1.dat, enter the following command: 
      </p><pre class="indent">nastran example1</pre><p class="para_topic">Keyword assignments can be specified as command line arguments and/or included in RC files. </p>
      <p class="para_topic">There are two RC files controlled by you: </p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The user RC file is in your home (or login) directory.  This file should be used to define parameters that are applied to all jobs run by you. </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The local RC file is .nast#rc (# designates release number), in the same directory as the input data file.  If the &ldquo;rcf&rdquo; keyword is used, this local RC file is ignored.  This file should be used to define parameters that are applied to all jobs contained in the input data file directory. </p>
         </li>
      </ul>

         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The tilde (~) character is not recognized within RC files. </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Environment variables are only recognized when used in the context of a logical symbol (see &ldquo;Using Filenames and Logical Symbols&rdquo; in the <em>NX Nastran Installation and Operations Guide</em>). 
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">When a keyword is specified on the command line, embedded spaces or special characters that are significant to the shell must be properly quoted; quotes should not be used within RC files. </p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <p class="para_topic">The keywords listed below are the most common ones for various computers, but are not available on all computers.  Also, the defaults may be site dependent.  Please consult your <b class="uiTerm">Keywords and Environment Variables</b> in the <em>NX Nastran Installation and Operations Guide</em> for keyword applicability, specialized keywords, and further discussion of keywords and their defaults. Also see <b class="uiTerm">DMP Processing Keywords</b> in the <em>NX Nastran Installation and Operations Guide</em> for a list of specialized keywords for dmp operations. Keywords that use yes/no values accept partial specification and case-independent values.  For example, &ldquo;yes&rdquo; may be specified as &ldquo;y&rdquo;, &ldquo;ye&rdquo;, or &ldquo;yes&rdquo; using uppercase or lowercase letters.  The examples assume the jobs are run under a UNIX operating system.
