      <p class="para_topic">Speeds refer to spindle and surface speeds. You set speeds on the <b class="uiTerm"><a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgturning/turn_mp_feed_rates.html');return(false);">Feed Rate</a></b> dialog within each operation.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">The following are the parameters pertaining to speeds in Turning.</p>

               <p class="para_td">Method in which the feed rate is specified:</p>

                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item">RPM - Revolutions per Minute - the number of times the spindle turns in 60 seconds.</p>
                  </li>
                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item">SFM/SMM - Surface Feet/Meters per Minute - the distance in feet or meters that the spindle travels in 60 seconds measured at the surface of the part. Here the spindle speed adjusts its speed to the current cut diameter &ndash; the smaller the diameter, the faster the spindle rotates.</p>

               <p class="para_th">Surface Speed (sfm)</p>
            </th>
            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top" width="83%">
               <p class="para_td">Speed on the surface of the part at any moment in the machining process. In order for this speed to stay constant during machining, it is necessary for the spindle speed to adjust to the current cut diameter (smaller diameter &rarr; faster spindle rotation). This option is grayed out if you choose RPM as the Mode.</p>

               <p class="para_th">Spindle Speed</p>
            </th>
            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top" width="83%">
               <p class="para_td">Speed at which the spindle holding the part turns. This is measured in whichever unit is chosen under Non-Cut and Cut Units below. This item changes to maximum RPM for spindle mode SFM/SMM.</p>
            </td>

            </th>
            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top" width="83%">
               <p class="para_td">Defines the maximum RPM to be reached during SFM or SMM motion.</p>

               <p class="para_th">Preset RPM</p>
            </th>
            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top" width="83%">
               <p class="para_td">Value for the RPM that is output for the spindle prior to entering SFM or SMM mode. </p>

               <p class="para_th">Engage Spindle Speed</p>
            </th>
            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top">
               <p class="para_td">Setting this speed, in addition to the normal spindle speed, produces a Spindle/ON event creating a switch to the engage spindle speed before the engage motion, and back to normal spindle speed afterwards.</p>
               <p class="para_td">This option is only available in Centerline Drilling.</p>

               <p class="para_th">Spindle Direction</p>
            </th>
            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top" width="83%">
               <p class="para_td">Depending on the side of centerline where you cut and on the tool's insert side (up/down), this function automatically causes the spindle direction to be correct for both cutting situations. The rotation direction for drilling tools is opposite to that specified as a parameter in the tool definition. If you do not choose automatic, you can choose from:</p>
               <p class="para_td">None - no direction will be output to the postprocessor. The operation will continue using the spindle direction defined in the previous operation. </p>
               <p class="para_td">CLW and CCLW - define clockwise and counterclockwise spindle directions regardless of the tool insert or cut region definitions.</p>
            </td>

               <p class="para_th">Set Non-Cut Units</p>
            </th>
            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top" width="83%">
               <p class="para_td">Initializes the feed rate unit for all movements which do no cut through material such as traversals and returns. This option sets the units of all non-cut moves at once so you don't have to individually change the unit of each feed rate.</p>

               <p class="para_th">Set Cut Units</p>
            </th>
            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top" width="83%">
               <p class="para_td">Initializes the feed rate unit for all movements which cut through material such as engage and cut moves. This option sets the units of all cutting moves at once so you don't have to individually change the unit of each feed rate.</p>

               <p class="para_th">Reset from Table</p>
            </th>
            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top" width="83%">
               <p class="para_td">Replaces the values in the General tab with standard values from the feeds and speeds library delivered with the installation as follows:</p>

                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item">Turn Rough: the system resets the engage, cut, retract, first cut and step over feed rates.</p>
                  </li>
                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item">Turn Finish: the system resets the engage, cut, first cut and step over feed rates. </p>
                  </li>
                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item">Centerline Drilling: the system resets the engage and cut feed rates. </p>
                  </li>
                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item">Threading: the system resets the engage, cut, retract feed rates. </p>
                  </li>
                  <li>
                     <p class="para_item">Teach Mode: the system resets engage and cut feed rates. </p>
                  </li>
               </ul>
