      <div class="title_division">When to Use Tool Run-Off</div>
      <div class="title_division">Use Tool Run-Off in the following situation:</div>
      <p class="para_division">While using a Zig or Zig-Zag cut pattern, sometimes it is more important for the tool to retract completely off the part after each cutting pass than to minimize the total tool path time. &nbsp;You can activate the Tool Run-Off option to retract the tool completely off the part after a Zig or Zig-Zag cutting pass. &nbsp;Tool Run-Off is illustrated in Figure 1 below. &nbsp;The cut direction is indicated with the a number 1. &nbsp;Number 2 points to how the tool runs completely off the face at the end of each pass. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

      <p class="para_division">Compare the figure above with the one below below. &nbsp;Notice that in the figure below, there is no Tool Run-Off. &nbsp;The tool does not run off the part, but instead remains in contact with the part.</p>

      <div class="title_division">When not to use Tool Run-Off :</div>
      <p class="para_division">When roughing production parts, sometimes it is important to retract the tool immediately instead of running off the part to minimize tool path time. &nbsp;In this case set the Tool Run-Off to Off. &nbsp;This is illustrated in the figure below. &nbsp;The cut direction is indicated with a number 1. &nbsp;Number 2 points to how the tool stays in contact with the face at the end of each pass. &nbsp;</p>

                  <p class="para_note_body">Note that Tool Run-Off is not the same as  <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgmilling/pmill_fm_blnk_ovrhng.html');return(false);">Blank Overhang</a>. &nbsp;With Blank Overhang, the blank is extended all around the part. &nbsp;&nbsp;Tool Run-Off occurs only when the tool completes a cutting pass.

      <div class="title_division">Using Tool Run-Off</div>
      <p class="para_division">The Tool Run-Off parameter allows for both of these situations: </p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">In the Face Milling operation dialog, under Engage/Retract, press the method button. &nbsp;This brings up the Engage/Retract dialog.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">In the Engage/Retract dialog, under the Internal Retract method, toggle on the Tool Run-Off item. &nbsp;For Zig cut type, the Internal Retract method must be set to Automatic. &nbsp;For the Zig-Zag cut type, the Final Retract method must be set to Automatic.</p>
