Default Corner Control allows you to specify the tool path action when the tool contacts part corners. For convex (i.e., greater than 180 degrees) you can specify sharp, rounded, or chamfered corners. For concave (i.e., less than 180 degrees) you can specify that fillets be added to prevent the tool from becoming "buried" in the corner. Furthermore, you can specify that the tool should slowdown as it approaches and cuts concave corners so that the tool is not deflected or otherwise affected by a sudden increase in chip load.

The following Corner Control options are applied to corners within a sub-operation but not between two consecutive operations.

Convex Corners

Convex Corners are angles that are greater than 180 degrees when viewed from the tool side. For Convex Corners, you can choose:

Sharp Corner

Sharp Corner indicates that part corners are not to be modified. No rounding or chamfering is applied to corners.

Roll / Round Corner

Roll / Round Corner indicates that part corners are to be rounded. Specify the Round Radius value to be applied to corners.

Break / Chamfer Corner

Break / Chamfer Corner indicates that part corners are to be chamfered. Specify the Break Distance value to be applied to corners. The distance is subtracted from the ends of both curves. This creates a 45 degree chamfer.

Concave Corners

Concave Corners are angles that are less than 180 degrees when viewed from the tool side. For Concave Corners, you can:

Add Fillets

Add Fillets allows you to specify a Radius value that is to be added in concave part corners. This allows a smoother transition between those curves forming the concave angle.

Slowdown

Slowdown allows you to specify a feed rate (determined by a % Cut Feed or Specify Value) that is to be used in concave corners. You can specify the Length (determined by a % Tool Diameter or Specify Value), which is the distance before the corner, that the slowdown feed rate is to begin. You can further specify the Max. Angle of the concave angle for the Slowdown option to be active and the Number of Steps used to slowdown the tool as it enters and exits the corner. Refer to Corner and Feed Rate Control in the Common Options section for details.

End Operation

End Operation allows you to accept all of the parameters that you have defined and go to the next step. This option allows you to get access to the Generate Tool Path and Save Operation options, as well as other display options.
