The Sequential Mill dialog provides options that determine tool path action, display settings, and tolerances for each operation. These parameters apply to every sub-operation. When you are finished specifying these parameters, select OK and the dialog for the first sub-operation (Engage Motion) will be displayed.

Default Tolerances

Default Tolerances allows you to specify Intol, Outol and Tool Axis tolerances for the Sequential Milling operation. In a later sub-operation you can specify Custom Surface Tolerances (using the Options button on the Continuous Path Parameters dialog) that will replace the Default Tolerance value.

Surface Intol specifies the inside tolerance for the Drive, Part, and Check surfaces during Engage or Continuous Path sub-operations. This tolerance is the maximum distance by which the tool may penetrate the surfaces. This value may not be negative, and cannot be zero if Surface Outol is zero.

Surface Outol specifies the outside tolerance for the Drive, Part, and Check surfaces during Engage or Continuous Path sub-operations. This tolerance is the maximum distance by which the tool may fail to reach the part surface. This value may not be negative, and cannot be zero if Surface Intol is zero.

Tool Axis (degrees) specifies the angular tolerance (measured in degrees) for the tool axis during multi-axis motion. This tolerance is the maximum angle that the actual tool axis may deviate from the correct tool axis at any output point. The value must be positive. The default value is one-tenth of a degree.

In Sequential Milling, each fixed axis tool location is determined by positioning either Tangent To or On two or three surfaces.

If you use a tool axis that depends upon surface normals, the processor must search for a satisfactory tool axis/surface normal relationship at the contact point and maintain the Tangent To/On conditions.

Tool Axis determines how well the tool axis must match the theoretically correct axis at each location. In the following figure, the theoretically correct tool axis is the dashed vector arrow. However, a generous enough Tool Axis Tolerance permits the processor search to stop when the tool is oriented as shown. The default Tool Axis Tolerance is 1/10 degree.
