      <p class="para_topic">A cutting tap has a spiral set of cutting edges that cut a thread in a hole as the tool enters the hole. This tool must be reversed in order for it to be removed from the hole. Taps are made to form a particular thread size and shape.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">A thread-rolling tap has a continuous spiral ridge around the shaft of the tool which impresses the thread form into the inside of the hole as the tool enters the hole. Thread rolling does not cut the metal but forms the metal into the thread form. Thread rolling tap does not produce a chip.</p>

               <p class="para_td">Select either rigid or floating for the type of holder you are using to tap the part. &nbsp;A rigid holder is a solid holder that holds the tool tight. A floating holder holds the tool loosely allowing the tool to slide in and out of the holder. </p>
