      </table><br><p class="para_topic">Closed areas are regions where the tool must cut into the material before reaching the current cut level. Open areas are regions where the tool can enter through air at the current cut level.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">Geometry is not the only consideration for determining if an area is open or closed. Other considerations include the operation, cut pattern, and trim boundaries. If you use trim boundaries to localize the cut area, NX assumes a closed area even if there is only a little bit of blank outside the trim boundary, or the trim boundary and blank are coincident.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">The system recognizes the following regions as open areas:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Predrilled holes indicated by user defined points.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Any position that is opposite the material side of a boundary segment whose tool position is ON.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Any position along an imaginary line that extends beyond the start point or end point of a tool path that follows an open boundary.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Inside a pocket away from initial stock values (see the following note)</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Region already cut by previous passes of the operation</p>

      <p class="para_topic">The engage will start at the specified clearance plane or just above either the blank plane or previous cut plane. The distance above the blank plane or previous cut plane is determined by the specified <b class="uiTerm">Minimum Clearance</b> distance.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">The tool is lowered into the open area just above the cutting plane using an approach feed rate. The distance above the cutting plane is determined by the specified Minimum Clearance. The tool is then lowered to the cutting plane using an engage feed rate. The tool is then ready to engage the side material.</p>
