      <p class="para_topic">Common turning tool inserts are classified in ISO/ANSI/DIN or tool vendor standards. NX Turn supports all of these tools. The classification is based upon the following minimal parameter set where we introduce a natural Cartesian coordinate system with X and Y-axis for better understanding (X-axis at centerline):</p>
      <ul>

            <p class="para_item">Nose Radius</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Nose Angle </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Orientation Angle (CCLW from positive X-axis to first cutting edge met from exterior)</p>

      </ul>
      <p class="para_topic">Furthermore, the following attributes are needed, either in order to specify optional processor related information or for the sake of clearly showing the reference to one of the standardization conventions mentioned above:</p>

            <p class="para_item">Insert Shape (ISO coded including X @ user defined)</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Tracking Point</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Direction (corresponds to the required spindle direction for machining above centerline)</p>

            <p class="para_item">Cutting Edge Length</p>

            <p class="para_item">Insert Thickness (ISO coded)</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Relief Angle (ISO coded)</p>

            <p class="para_item">Maximum Tool Reach (for boring)</p>

      <p class="para_topic">The tool definition dialog for the standard turning tool is shown in the figure below. An exception to this is the button tool.</p>

               <p class="para_td">Here you choose an insert shape. The choices include: parallelogram, diamond, hexagon, rectangle, octagon, pentagon, round, square, triangle, triagon or user defined. Once the insert category is selected from the ISO Insert Shape option menu, the sketch at the top of the dialog is adjusted and the edit field Nose Angle is filled out with the proper settings (e.g., selection of option C (Diamond 80) yields Nose Angle = 80).</p>

               <p class="para_td">&nbsp;Here you may define the size of the Standard Tool insert. You have a choice of Cut Edge Length, Inscribed Circle or Inscribed Circle ANSI. The ISO insert size definition uses Cut Edge Length while the ANSI standard uses the inscribed circle. Depending on which standard the tool manufacturer uses, you may select the corresponding method to determine size.</p>

               <p class="para_td">This is the maximum distance which a tool and its holder can travel into a part. This is dependant upon the geometry of a part and the tool holder. The purpose of this parameter is to prevent collision of the tool holder with the part.</p>
