Machine Tool Motion Control

The Motion Control option allows you to specify how
the GPM outputs machine tool coordinate motion.

You can control the format
of the G codes using the Preparatory,
Function G Code Format option under the Preparatory,
Auxiliary, and Event Code Format menu. Use the Machine
Tool Motion Control option to specify the G codes that control
motions.

Motion G Codes

This section allows you to specify the G codes to control
the type of machine tool motion. You have the following options:

Normal Motion G Codes
- allows you to set up non-cycle motion G codes for rapid traverse, linear
interpolation and circular interpolation. Typical values are G00, G01,
G02, G03.

You can also define whether the codes are modal. The
default is SET/MODE,COARSE. This is the usual method of output. The following
codes are then output.

Traverse Motion
G Code - this allows you to define a G code that the GPM outputs
for non-cycle RAPID motions.

Linear Motion Contouring
G Code - this allows you to define a G code that the GPM outputs
for contouring motions.

Circular Interpolation
Clockwise G Code - this allows you to define a G code that the
GPM outputs for clockwise circular interpolation.

Circular Interpolation
Counterclockwise G Code - this allows you to define a G code that
the GPM outputs for counter clockwise circular interpolation.

Spline Interpolation
G Code - this allows you to define a G code that the GPM outputs
for spline interpolation.

Precision Cornering
Motion G Codes (Mode, Fine) - Some controls have a coarse mode
for normal work and a fine mode for precision cornering for rapid traverse,
linear and circular interpolation motion. Typical codes are G20, G21,
G22 and G23. These codes are set the same as the normal motion G codes.

The SET/MODE, FINE command is used to select the fine
G codes and SET/MODE, COARSE to select the coarse codes.

NOTE:
The interactive sequence for defining Precision Cornering G Codes is the
same as for Normal Motion G Codes.

Absolute And/Or Incremental
Mode - This option allows you to specify how the GPM outputs absolute
and incremental modes. You have the following options:

Absolute/Incremental
Mode Output Control -This option allows you to specify whether
the coordinates are the absolute position or an incremental distance from
the previous position. You can specify one of the following:

G Code
Determines Absolute And Incremental Mode - Causes the system to
output a Modal G code to define the operating mode. When you select this
option, the Current Status changes to G Code For Absol And Incr and the
defaults for option 2 and 3 change to 90 and 91 respectively. G90 is a
common G Code for Absolute Mode and G91 is a common G Code for Incremental
Mode.

X Y Z Determines
Absolute And U V W Determines Incremental - Causes the system to
output data using X, Y, and Z for Absolute coordinates and U, V, and W
for Incremental coordinates where U, V, and W represent X, Y, and Z respectively.
The system also changes the Current Status of option 2 and 3 to Not Valid
since G Codes to change from one mode to another are not required.

Absolute
Mode Only - Causes the system to output only Absolute coordinates.
This option should always be used if your machine tool does not support
Incremental coordinates. The system also changes the Current Status of
option 2 and 3 to Not Valid since G Codes to change from one mode to another
are not required. The system also changes the Current Status of the Default
Mode to Absolute.

Incremental
Mode Only - Causes the system to output only Incremental coordinates.
The system also changes the Current Status of option 2 and 3 to Not Valid
since G Codes to change from one mode to another are not required. The
system also changes the Current Status of the Default Mode to Incremental.

Trailing
Character For Incremental - Causes the system to output a character
following each coordinate to tell the controller that the coordinate is
Incremental. Some controls use a slash (/) following a coordinate to indicate
that the coordinate is incremental. You must specify a character for both
incremental and absolute modes.

Absolute Mode G
Code - This allows you to specify the G code that the GPM outputs
for the Absolute output. You must have also specified that G codes determine
Absolute or Incremental modes.

Incremental Mode
G Code - This allows you to specify the G code that the GPM outputs
for the Incremental output. You must have also specified that G codes
determine Absolute or Incremental modes.

Default Mode
- This allows you to define the initial mode as Incremental or Absolute.
All coordinates are defined in this mode until the system encounters a
SET/MODE to change it.

Can Rotary Axis
Be Incremental - This option is only valid for Mills and Production
Centers.

Inch And Metric Output
G Codes - allows you to define the G codes that the GPM outputs
indicating either inch or metric values. You can specify a G code for
Inch and a G code for Metric modes.

Rapid Traverse Positioning Parameters

This option allows you to define the codes and format
necessary for the GPM to output rapid motion.

A Rapid Traverse is performed at the maximum linear
feedrate of the machine tool. This feedrate is usually defined by telling
the controller to move at its maximum speed (typically, G00). You can
specify the following rapid traverse positioning parameters:

Rapid Motion Traverse
Feedrate - Specify the rapid feedrate. This is only used to calculate
machining time.

Rapid Z Axis Positioning
Mode - This allows you to define how the Z (spindle) axis moves
during a rapid move.

There are four types of Z axis modes:

Rapid Motion G
Code And Z, V Or W Word Address - causes the GPM to output a G
Code (G00) and a coordinate in the Z, V, or W axis.

G80 And R (Rapid
Clearance Point) Word Address - causes the GPM to output a G80
and a coordinate using the R word address character.

G87 And R And Z
Word Addresses - causes the GPM to output the G87 cycle code and
a coordinate using the R word address character and a Z coordinate of
the same value.

G80 And R (Rapid
Clearance Point) In Cycles Only - causes the GPM to output a G80
and a coordinate using the R word address character in machine cycles
only. The GPM uses the Traverse G Code (usually G00) and Z, V or W axis
for all rapid moves outside of machine cycles.

Work Plane Change For
Traverse Positioning - This allows you to specify whether the GPM
outputs work plane changes for rapid motions.

If the tool is moving towards the part, the GPM outputs
a rapid X Y move, then a rapid Z move. If the tool is moving away from
the part, the GPM outputs a rapid Z move, then a rapid X Y move.

Rapid Motion Feedrate
Code - This allows you to specify if there is a code in addition
to the G code for rapid, and if a particular feedrate mode (G93, G94,
G95) is required. It also provides for designating a letter(s) only code
for rapid (e.g., "R" for Bostomatics or a "/" preceding
the coordinates as required by Bandit controls).

F Code In Ipm (G94)
Mode For Rapid Traverse - This allows you to specify a feedrate
value that the GPM outputs to cause a rapid motion. (This is commonly
a 0, which causes the GPM to output an F0 with G94 for rapid).

F Code In
Ipr (G95) Mode For Rapid Traverse
- This allows you to specify a feedrate value that the GPM outputs to
cause a rapid motion. (This is commonly a 0, which causes the GPM to output
an F0 with G95 for rapid).

F Code In
Frn (G93) Mode For Rapid Traverse
- This allows you to specify a feedrate value that the GPM outputs to
cause a rapid motion. (This is commonly a 0, which causes the GPM to output
an F0 with G93 for rapid).

F Code In
Current Mode For Rapid Traverse
- This allows you to specify a feedrate value that the GPM outputs to
cause a rapid motion. (This is commonly a 0, which causes the GPM to output
an F0 with the current mode).

F Code Is Calculated
Frn From Rapid Rate -This option causes the GPM to calculate a
Feed Rate Number based on the Maximum Feedrate and the distance the machine
tool must move.

Letter Only Code
For Rapid Traverse - This option causes the GPM to output the character
string you enter in a Rapid Traverse block. The string can contain letters
and numbers. The system will interpret them all as characters.

This option can also be used to pass Character Codes through the GPM
(e.g. <107>).

Slash Precedes
Coordinates For Rapid Rate - This option causes the GPM to output
a slash (/) before each coordinate component in a Rapid Traverse block.

Feedrate Code Not
Required For Rapid Traverse - This option prevents the GPM from
outputting feedrate codes for rapid traverse. This is the default setting.

Use Optional G And
F Codes For Small Rapid Moves - This option allows you to specify
G and F Codes that are output for moves based on their length. You can
specify the length parameter, and the actions that should be taken if
the move is either greater than or less than that parameter. If you choose
this option you have the following choices:

Rapid Feedrate
Code; Delta Move Greater Than Defined - When you select this option
you can define the rapid feedrate code that the GPM outputs when the move
is greater than specified. You have the same options as for RAPID MOTION
FEEDRATE CODES on page 1-52.

Rapid G Code; Coarse
Mode Delta Move Greater Than Defined - When you select this option
you can define the G code that the GPM outputs when the move is greater
than specified when in coarse mode.

Rapid G Code; Fine
Mode Delta Move Greater Than Defined - When you select this option
you can define the G code that the GPM outputs when the move is greater
than specified when in fine mode.

Rapid Feedrate
Code; Delta Move Less Than Defined - When you select this option
you can define the rapid feedrate code that the GPM outputs when the move
is less than specified. This allows you to handle acceleration and deceleration
differently for extremely small rapid moves. You have the same options
as for RAPID MOTION FEEDRATE CODES on page 1-52.

Rapid G Code; Coarse
Mode Delta Move Less Than Defined - When you select this option
you can define the G code that the GPM

Rapid G Code; Fine
Mode Delta Move Less Than Defined - When you select this option
you can define the G code that the GPM outputs when the move is less than
specified when in fine mode.

Canned Cycle Rapid
Traverse Rate - This allows you specify whether the Rapid Traverse
Feedrate Code is output in the canned cycle output block. If it is output,
then you can specify the feedrate value and format for the word address
output code.

Use Rapid Code(s) When
Feedrate Is At Maximum - This option allows you to use the rapid
traverse codes when the feedrate is at the maximum machine feedrate.
