Valley Overlap and Steep Overlap enable you to increase the size of the cleanup areas defined by valleys and steep surfaces as illustrated below. The overlap distance is offset from the cleanup boundaries within the plane normal to the tool axis and then projected on to the plane containing the Cleanup Geometry. These options are available when either Valleys or Steep Areas are toggled ON. Steep Overlap does not apply when using the Flow Cut drive method.

Valley Merge and Steep Merge enable you to specify a value that combines cleanup areas defined by neighboring uncut valleys and steep areas into a single cleanup area. When two cleanup areas are closer than the specified distance, they combine into one large area. The system default distance is zero. Steep Merge does not apply when using the Flow Cut drive method. These options are available when either Valleys or Steep Areas are toggled ON.

Output Type

Output Type enables you to determine the type of Cleanup Geometry to create. Boundaries are created as Permanent and Closed, and default to the On condition. Points enable you to manually construct boundaries in any desired configuration. For valleys, points are created defining the perimeters of uncut areas. For steep surfaces, points are created filling the entire area.

Auto Save Cleanup

Auto Save Cleanup causes the Cleanup Geometry to be saved as grouped entities (with no additional user interaction with the Cleanup Output Control options shown below) when you Generate the tool path from the Fixed Contour dialog. This option is not modal and must be reset each time.

The option defaults to OFF and when toggled ON displays the boundaries on the current work layer.

If Auto Save Cleanup remains OFF after specifying the desired Cleanup Settings, the following Cleanup Geometry dialog box displays after generating the tool path.

This dialog box allows you to make changes to the Cleanup Output Control parameters specified earlier before creating the Cleanup Geometry. It also enables you to create the Cleanup Geometry as a temporary screen display for (visual evaluation only) by selecting Display, or as Grouped Entities by selecting Save. Once you select OK, the process continues and the Cleanup Geometry is generated.

The boundaries can be permanently saved to the work layer by saving (OK) the operation. It is not necessary to retain the Tool Path if you are only using Cleanup Geometry to determine the uncut material boundaries.

Output Geometry Naming Conventions

The naming conventions used for this feature are as follows:

Steep uncut areas: "Operation Name" + "Sn"

Valley uncut areas: "Operation Name" + "Vn"

This boundary list example illustrates this point.

BOUNDARIES

Both Steep and Valley boundaries are grouped independently and then named as follows. Points are grouped.

GROUP - OP1.CLN

GROUP - OP2.CLN

GROUP - OP3.CLN

Reusing a Cleanup Geometry operation name after the boundaries have been saved can overwrite the existing data if the new evaluation is saved. If the user specifies Save in the Cleanup Output Control dialog, a Warning Message is raised to this effect. Accepting the Warning with OK will cause the overwrite when the operation is saved, while Cancel will nullify the output. There is no such Warning raised if the user has opted for Auto Save Cleanup. Also, Work Layer control should be an integral part of the evaluation as it will simplify managing the results.
