      </table><br><p class="para_topic">Form tools have no standardized shape, but are often custom-made tools for a specific use in a part shape. Any type of form tool can be used in Turning providing you save its geometry on layer 2 in its part file.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">There are two different ways to define the shape of a form tool with multiple radii:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgturning/turn_tool_ext_lib.html');return(false);">Retrieve the tool from the database</a>. This database stores the tool part file which has been parametrically modelled in NX. For more information on how to do this, see the Tool Assembly Part Files section under NX Library in the Manufacturing General documentation.

                  <p class="para_note_body">You can only use form tools in Teach Mode, partoff, and threading operation types. In Teach Mode and partoff operations, you cannot define follow curve motion or engage/retract motion for a form tool. You can only define linear rapid and linear feed motions. </p>

      <div class="title_division">Specifying Form Tool Parameters</div>
      <p class="para_division">You can define a form tool directly in the dialog by specifying parameters for each nose. Enter the line lengths and the radii parameters of the tool shape into the form tool dialog as follows:</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Specify the polar angle and the length of the first edge. Specify the polar angle relative to the positive rotation axis at a tool orientation angle of 0 degrees.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Add up to 30 elements containing the following information:</p>
            <ul>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">Nose Radius A value of 0 is admissible.</p>
               </li>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">Nose Angle This is the included angle to the previous edge. An included angle between two subsequent edges with a value &lt; 180 implies that the included arc is CLW; a value &gt; 180 implies that the included arc is CCLW.</p>
               </li>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">Edge Length A value of 0 is admissible.</p>
               </li>
            </ul>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">You must specify the tool's orientation angle (as with grooving tools) and the insert direction (topside, underside) unless predefined via tool mounting and database access. Here, tool orientation is determined by the angle between the positive rotation axis and the initial edge in the tool description. The other optional attributes mentioned below are the same as in the grooving tool dialogs.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Press Display Tool. The system shows the profile description of the special tool in the graphics window and also performs a validity check of the tangential condition for all radii included. This test is also carried out if the tool shape was taken over from modelled geometry.</p>
         </li>
      </ol>
