      <p class="para_topic">The Plunge Roughing Dialog is customizable so the options available vary according to your needs. The following is an overview of the available options.                <p class="para_td">Lets you choose between distance values or percentage of tool width (percentage only available for grooving tools).</p>

               <p class="para_td">Allows you to define the orientation for the individual plunge cuts which are computed by the system in plunge roughing operations. The interactive arrow beside the input field gives you a visual cue as to the direction you have chosen for the cut.</p>

               <p class="para_th">Direction</p>
            </th>
            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top">
               <p class="para_td">Allows you to invert the (initial) cutting direction for finishing/profiling passes with respect to the direction given by boundary orientation or through profiling-related roughing parameters. Selecting the forward-pointing arrow causes the cut to be carried out in the direction of the step angle (arrow indicator). Selecting the backward-pointing arrow reverses the cut direction.</p>

               <p class="para_td">Allows you to position the first plunge at any desired point on the geometry. This is facilitated through the Settings option, which provides you with the Point Constructor dialog to choose a first plunge position.</p>

               <p class="para_td">Restricts the depth of each plunge cut to the specified amount. Plunge roughing is then performed level by level in a single roughing operation. &nbsp;The same result occurs when you set a  <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgturning/turn_tool_groove.html#groove_max_depth');return(false);">Maximum Depth</a> in the grooving tool's Tool Definition dialog. If both of these parameters are set, the system will use the minimum of the two parameters.

               <p class="para_td">Allows you to omit the cutting of the valleys of the part boundary found in the cut region you are currently machining.</p>

               <p class="para_td">Initiates a series of cuts meant to remove stairs left behind by rough cuts.</p>

               <p class="para_th">Additional Profiling</p>
            </th>
            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top">
               <p class="para_td">Serves as the &quot;on/off&quot; switch for  <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgturning/turn_mp_profiling.html');return(false);">profiling</a>. If selected, the additional profiling option performs a cleanup of the part surface after multiple rough cuts have been made. In contrast to the Cleanup option, profiling is meant to follow either the entire part boundary or certain portions of it which describe individual reversals. This is sequenced in a way that all rough cuts for the entire cut region or for the respective reversal currently machined are carried out first, and only then does the profiling take place.

Turn off <b class="uiTerm">Update IPW</b> to create mirrored cycles for simultaneous roughing with multiple tools (merging lathes) that you can then fine-tune in the Synchronization Manager.
