Lead In and Lead Out allows you to specify the WireEDM Approach to the cutting boundary. There are three methods to define your Lead In and Lead Out sequence.

Lead Out Same As Lead In

When toggled ON, this option causes all Lead Out parameters to be identical to the specified Lead In parameters. All Lead Out options are grayed out.

Direct Lead In, Direct Lead Out

These options allow you to set a lead in normal to the first cut from a length that you specify and a lead out normal to the last cut from a length that you specify.

Angular Lead In, Angular Lead Out

These options allow you to set a lead in at an angle and length from the first cut that you specify and a lead out at an angle and length from the last cut that you specify.

Lead In Distance, Lead Out Distance

These fields are active for Direct Lead In/Out and Angular Lead In/Out methods. Enter the distances for lead in and lead out.

Lead In Angle, Lead Out Angle

These fields are only active when Angular Lead In/Out is chosen. The Lead In Angle is the angle measured away from the direction of the first cut. The Lead Out Angle is the angle measured from the direction of the final cut.

Non-Tilt Lead In

When toggled ON, the Non-Tilt Lead In option creates a Lead In move that fulfils the requirement of 4-axis operations on AGIE machines. It causes the wire to move along the plane defined by the Z axis and the wire's X-Y move direction (P1 illustrated below) to achieve a zero degree tilt angle. The zero degree tilt angle is maintained during the entire Lead In move. This option does not affect the lead angle of the wire. This option is available when specifying an Angular or Direct lead in. It is not available when specifying a Circular Lead In.

In rare cases you may wish to define the Lead In move from the thread hole point to the part boundary. By specifying the Lead In point at the thread hole point and a zero Lead In distance, the system generates a Lead In cutting move from the thread hole point to the surface of the part. If the wire axis at the thread hole point (also the start of the lead in move) has a zero tilt and Non-Tilt Lead In is toggled ON, then the tilt angle remains zero during the entire Lead In move. However, if the wire axis at the thread hole point does not have a zero tilt, the system will display an error message and will stop generating the tool path.

Circular Lead In, Circular Lead Out

This option allows you to set the parameters for a circular lead in and a circular lead out of the cut.

Arc Radius

This field is only active when Circular Lead In/Out is chosen. Arc Radius allows you enter a value for the radius of the lead in/lead out arc.

Degree of Arc

This field is only active when Circular Lead In/Out is chosen. The Degree of Arc is the angular distance used to engage into the cut and retract out of the cut. You can specify the angles for lead in and lead out arcs.

Cutcom Distance and Cutcom Angle

This field is active for all three lead options, but has a different function for Direct Lead In/Out and Angular Lead In/Out than for Circular Lead In/Out.

For Direct Lead In/Out and Angular Lead In/Out, the Cutcom Distance is the length that the Wire travels before the cutcom is active at engage or after the cutcom is inactive at retract. You can specify distance for lead in and lead out cutcom distance. The wire travels the length of Cutcom Distance in the direction of the angle that you specified for the Cutcom Angle.

For Circular Lead In/Out, the Cutcom Distance is the length that the Wire travels before it starts traveling along the arc for the lead in and the length it travels after it finishes traveling along the arc for the lead out. The WireEDM engages the linear cutcom distance and circular arc for each pass of a multi pass cut at angle specified for the Cutcom Angle.

Overlapping

Overlapping allows you specify a length that the WireEDM will go past the beginning of the first cut before it stops or leads out. Toggle on Overlapping to activate the Overlap Distance field. In this field you can enter the length that you want.
