      <p class="para_topic">Use Tool Axis within the Surface Area Drive Method to specify a Tool Axis in the same way as in the Surface Contouring Dialog. You can either change the existing Tool Axis, or specify a Tool Axis that is only available in the Surface Drive method. This option is only available for Variable Contour.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Relative to Drive Tool Axis Smoothing</div>
      <p class="para_division">You can access Relative to Drive Tool Axis Smoothing in Variable Axis Surface Contouring. &nbsp;This functionality smooths out the spikes in the tool path while maintaining the finish tolerance. &nbsp;The tool path should be significantly better than one without smoothing applied. &nbsp;The tool path should be free of spikes, knots and side-slips and conform to the Intol/Outol settings in the operation. &nbsp;</p>
      <p class="para_division">The figures below show a tool path before and after applying Tool Axis Smoothing.</p>

      <p class="para_division">Relative to Drive Tool Axis Smoothing is available only under the following conditions:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">When the Drive Method in Variable Axis Surface Contouring is Surface Area. </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The Tool Position is Tanto. &nbsp;</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The Tool Axis is set to  <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgmilling/tlax_reldr.html');return(false);">Relative to Drive</a>.
            </p>
            <p class="para_item">Follow these steps to activate Tool Axis Smoothing:</p>
            <ol type="1" start="1">
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">From the main Variable Contouring dialog (if currently using the Surface Area Drive Method) or the Surface Drive Method dialog, select the Relative to Drive Tool Axis option.</p>
               </li>
            </ol>
            <p class="para_item">Note: The Tool Position must be Tanto.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Select proper Lead and Tilt angles making sure that the Lead angle is not less than 10 degrees.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Toggle on Apply Smoothing. &nbsp;</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Press OK.</p>
         </li>
      </ul>

                  <p class="para_note_body">The Lead Angle setting in the Relative to Drive dialog can have a profound effect on the tool path at the leading and trailing edges of surfaces. If you attempt to generate a smooth tool path when the lead angle is zero or less than 10, the system gives you a message suggesting that you apply a proper value. &nbsp;You can adjust it to attain a reasonable smoothness.</p>
