      <p class="para_topic">The system uses machining feature templates to teach the system how to identify a feature, and assign a machining method for this feature. Within the template a machining feature subtype is created for each type of feature. </p>
      <p class="para_topic">For hole features, one machining feature subtype is created for a simple hole feature, one for a counterbore hole feature, and one for a threaded simple hole feature. </p>
      <p class="para_topic">For milling features, one subtype is created for face features, one for an open pocket, and one for a closed pocket.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">Machining feature templates tell the system how to identify and machine features of the corresponding type. </p>
      <p class="para_topic">This is outlined below:</p>
      <p class="para_topic">There are two steps in the machining feature template.</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The first step explains the following to the system:</p>
            <ul>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">How to identify a hole feature of a particular type.</p>
               </li>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">How to classify the identified feature.</p>
                  <ul>
                     <li>
                        <p class="para_item">Classifying the features means to group all the identified features of the same type together, based on criteria specific to that feature type. The criteria includes the geometric and non-geometric parameters that define the feature. All the features in a group have the same value for the chosen criteria. </p>
                     </li>
                     <li>
                        <p class="para_item">If no classification criteria is given (like on milling features) you can use a manual pre-classification via the Machining Feature Navigator in order to group milling features with the same characteristics.</p>
                     </li>
                  </ul>
               </li>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">The axis of the hole feature and the floor normal of a face feature.</p>
               </li>
            </ul>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The second step describes the machining process that can be applied to a feature. The contents of the second step are listed below:</p>
            <ul>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">Lists the operations required to machine the feature and the sequence in which the operations have to be performed.</p>
               </li>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">Evaluates the rules for selecting the tools for all the operations in the group. &nbsp;</p>
               </li>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">Sets the operation parameters which are controlled by Knowledge Fusion rules. </p>
               </li>
            </ul>
         </li>
      </ol>
