Tool Axis allows you to specify a vector for the tool axis (from tip to shank) or by using the option Normal To Part Surface to compute a Tool Axis which is normal to the part surface at each Goto point. If you do not specify a Tool Axis, the system uses the work coordinate ZC axis as the implicit tool axis.

You define the Tool Axis vector using one of options from the displayed subset of the Vector Subfunction options. Refer to the Subfunctions chapter of the Gateway Help for a discussion of each of these Vector Subfunction options.

Point to Point allows you to select arc centers to be GoTo points as well as points. When you select an arc, the system uses the arc center as the CL-point and saves the arc axis with the arc center.

After you define a tool axis, you must let the system know how it should handle the tool axis when arc centers are selected as GoTo points. You may specify whether or not you want the axis of each arc to be used as the Tool Axis by choosing Yes or No.

Yes: the system uses the arc axis of each selected arc as the Tool Axis at the corresponding CL-point. For any selected points (not arcs), the specified tool axis is used. This provides an easy way for you to perform the same operation on several different faces of a part.

Even if you have selected or intend to select only arc centers, the system requires you to specify a default Tool Axis for points. In this case, we recommend (0,0,1) in the Machine Coordinate System (MCS) as the default Tool Axis.

No: the system uses the specified Tool Axis for both points and arcs.
