      <p class="para_topic">A common problem with roughing is that the contour is left with scallops or stairs caused by the tool being lifted from the contour for the next movement as follows:</p>

      <p class="para_topic">The cleanup parameter is available for all roughing strategies and remedies this situation through a series of cuts meant to remove those stairs. The cleanup options determine how the tool path shall be continued once the tool has met contour elements after having finished a rough cut. The following figure illustrates a cleanup cut for linear roughing indicated by bold lines:</p>

      <p class="para_topic">For plunge roughing, cleanup is performed analogously, so that &quot;stair&quot; shaped remaining material is removed immediately after each individual plunge cut.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">Cleanup cuts can be restricted to certain contour types as defined in the Contour Types dialog of the Cutting Submenu. The following options are available as cleanup settings in linear roughing.</p>

      <div class="title_division">Cleanup Options in Contour Roughing</div>
      <p class="para_division">By definition in contour roughing the tool follows the contour of the part. This means that it does not lift off the contour as often as it does for linear roughing thereby leaving steps only at the beginning and the end of the tool path. Therefore, only the following cleanup options are available in contour roughing which determine the action of the tool when it lifts off the contour.</p>

                  <p class="para_note_body"> The path the tool takes can be greatly optimized in contour roughing by selecting appropriate  <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgturning/turn_mp_profiling.html');return(false);">Profiling Strategies</a>: for example, if you define a particular curve as a face, this curve will only be machined once, instead of being included in the contoured path for roughing.

      <div class="title_division">Cleanup Options in Plunge Roughing</div>
      <p class="para_division">In plunge roughing, the system recognizes the width of the tool and will only clean up areas left over after taking into consideration the width of the cutting edge of the tool. This saves unnecessary tool motion. The following cleanup options are available in plunge roughing:</p>

                        <p class="para_note_body">Click <b class="uiTerm">Engage/Retract</b> &rarr; <b class="uiTerm">Retract</b> &rarr; <b class="uiTerm">Level/Part</b>.
                        </p>
                     </li>
                     <li>
                        <p class="para_note_body">Turn the <b class="uiTerm">Use Automatic Values</b> option off.
                        </p>
                     </li>
                     <li>
                        <p class="para_note_body">Enter an appropriate angle (usually 90&deg; for OD, 270&deg; for ID operations) and a distance equal to your tool radius.</p>
                     </li>
                  </ol>
