      <p class="para_topic"><b class="uiTerm">Generic Motion</b> is an operation for <em>positioning</em> the tools required for different applications. This is especially helpful for the movements between cutting operations for multi-axis machines with complex positioning control. <b class="uiTerm">Generic Motion</b> supports machines with five axes of freedom or less, such as orthogonal machines with linear and rotary axes.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">Key elements include:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Direct control of the tool motion. </p>
            <p class="para_item">You sequentially build the tool path from a selection of linear, circular, and rotary motion elements, called Sub-Operations.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Tool path and machine control functionality, such as feed rates and UDE access is specified within the motion elements.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The operation maintains and shows a sequential list of the motion elements.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Motion created using the <b class="uiTerm">Point Constructor</b> <img align="bottom" src="../graphic_library/icons/dialogs/gateway/common/point_constructor.gif" border="0"> is associative to the geometry selected. This assures repeatability during regeneration of the entire tool path.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Support for the standard milling and drilling tools.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Support for solid-modeled tools, such as probes, welding heads, or paint spraying heads.</p>

      <div class="title_division">Sub-operations</div>
      <p class="para_division">You interactively move the tool by creating a sequence of motion instructions that are called sub-operations (subops). The sub-operations display in the graphics window as tool path segments. You can select the subop from the graphics region or from the <b class="uiTerm">Sub-Operations</b> list. Select individual subops or a range of subops from the list to edit, delete, re-order, or display them.

      <p class="para_division"><b class="uiTerm">Generic Motion</b> includes the following types of sub-operations:

      <p class="para_division">The available inputs vary with the sub-operation type and can include:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">WCS, MCS or direct machine coordinates</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Motion relative to the current tool axis orientation</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Motion type ( for example, <b class="uiTerm">Traversal</b> or <b class="uiTerm">Engage</b>)
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Feed rate control</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">A rounding option</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <p class="para_division">You define an initial state of the machine at the beginning of the operation so that the subsequent subops are reliably repeatable. You can define the initial position and tool axis as the destination position for the first motion subop (<b class="uiTerm">Linear Delta Move</b> excluded).
      </p>
      <div class="title_division">Machine Tool</div>
      <p class="para_division">You can define the tool path sequences with or without an active machine tool assembly. When the machine tool is active within the programming session:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The machine data and its kinematics allow limits checking during machine simulation. </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The tool motion destination and trajectory are checked against the kinematics and limits of the CAM machine tool.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The machine components move on the screen to simulate the actual machine motion.</p>
         </li>
      </ul>

                  <p class="para_tip_body">When the machine tool is not active, you must compensate by programming the tool motion according to the expected movement of the real machine tool in the shop.</p>

      <p class="para_division"><b class="uiTerm">Generic Motion</b> has the following animation and machine simulation options available within the operation so that you can check the tool path motion as you build:
      </p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"><b class="uiTerm">Animate</b> shows only the tool.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"><b class="uiTerm">Simulate</b> shows a full machine simulation (requires an active machine tool assembly).
            </p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <p class="para_division">With an active machine tool assembly you can select either <b class="uiTerm">Animate</b> or <b class="uiTerm">Simulate</b>.
      </p>
