Start Point

Start Point is a tool positioning location in the cutter path start up sequence that can be used to avoid geometry or fixture components.

If a From Point has been defined, the cutter will Rapid from the From Point to the Start Point. If a Clearance Plane has also been defined, the cutter will Rapid to a point on the Clearance Plane directly above the Start Point then Rapid to the Start Point.

The cutter will then move, at the Approach feed rate, to the beginning of the Engage move if one has been defined or directly to the first point on the cutter path.

Start Point outputs a GOTO command at the Rapid feed rate after the FROM and post commands and before the first Engage move. The move from the Start Point to the first Engage move is output at the Approach feed rate.

For lathe application see Start Move.

Return Point

Return Point is a tool positioning location used to control the position of the cutter as it moves away from the part at the end of a cutting sequence.

After the cutter reaches the last point of the cutter path, or the end of a Retract move if one has been defined, the cutter moves straight up to the Clearance Plane, then moves to the Return Point. Both of these moves are at the Return feed rate.

If a Clearance Plane has not been defined, the cutter will move directly to the Return Point at the Return feed rate.

If a Clearance Plane has been defined for this cutting sequence, the Return Point should be located on or above the Clearance Plane.

Return Point outputs a GOTO command at the Rapid feed rate following the final Retract motion. This can be used to avoid geometry or fixture components between cutting operations.

Tool Axis allows you to specify what the tool axis will be at the return point. This option toggles between RETAIN LAST and MCS 0,0,1. RETAIN LAST causes the tool axis at the return point to be the same as that of the last GOTO point. MCS 0,0,1 causes the tool axis at the return point to be aligned with the Z axis of the MCS.

Gohome Point

Gohome Point is the final tool position. The From Point is often used as this position. Gohome Point outputs a Gohome command as the final entry in the tool path. The postprocessor will always interpret the Gohome command as a Rapid move ( i.e. a G00 is output after postprocessing).

The Use From Point suboption allows you to position the Gohome Point in the same location as the From Point. The symbol "FR:GH" appears on the display screen at the location of the From Point, now also the location of the Gohome Point. It remains displayed until the screen is refreshed.

The Gohome With No Parameters suboption causes the system to output the postprocessor command move to the Gohome position without location, values and tool axis.

Redisplay Avoidance Geometry

Redisplay Avoidance Geometry is the method used to redisplay the points and plane symbols in the part surface, if they are active. This option also displays the current Reference Coordinate System (RCS). Refer to RCS Actions for a discussion of the Reference Coordinate system and its relationship to Avoidance Geometry.
